The main goal of this work is the development of a computational program for the quantitative assessment of the effects of entrained air in pipeline systems with respect to their operational safety. Likewise, two specific problems are investigated. (1) The effect of entrained air in form of pockets on hydraulic transients, during pump shutdown. It can be considered the most dangerous maneuver within a pumping pipeline. The computations corresponding to this study were evaluated by using the method of characteristics. (2) The numerical simulation of fluid transients caused by the shutdown of pumps, considering air pockets located at the high points of pumping pipeline systems and a water-air bubble mixture immediately downstream of the pockets. The constitutive equations – conservation of the gas mass, of the liquid mass, and the mixture momentum – yield a set of differential equations that will be solved by the method of characteristics. For the homogeneous model presented herein the two phases or components are treated as a single pseudofluid with average properties. It is assumed that there is no relative motion or slip between the phases, as well as for the momentum equation for the mixture. In the same way to the compressibility of the gas, the liquid compressibility and the pipe wall elasticity are included in the system of equations. The equation of energy is not used due to the moderate change in temperature of the mixture during the transient. In the case of negative impacts on the safety and operability of pipeline systems resulting from air entrainment, operational remediation measures will be suggested. 
Hier wurden bereits zielgerechte Modellversuche ausgefuhrt und Losungsvorschlage fur bauliche und betriebliche Anderungen ausgearbeitet. Letztere sollten nunmehr wissenschaftlich vertieft und zu allgemeinen Bemessungsregeln, moglichst auf analytischer Basis, ubergefuhrt werden. Vornehmlich stehen die Bewegungsvorgange von kompakten Lufteinschlussen und Wasser-Luft-Gemischen (Zweiphasenkomponenten-Stromung) in Pumpendruckleitungen und deren Verhalten beim plotzlichen Abschalten der Pumpenaggregate im Vordergrund.

Hydrological modeling has become a widely accepted theoretical tool for water resources engineering and management. Rainfall-runoff models are used both for short and medium time management (for example flood forecasting) and long-time design purposes. However, the application of hydrological models is limited due to several reasons. One important limitation is imposed by the availability of data and parameter estimation. Discharges are only measured at a few selected river cross sections, leading to a small number of catchments for which the runoff calculated from the models might be verified. Further, the high spatial and temporal variability of the meteorological input (such as precipitation, temperature or wind) cannot fully be captured by the usually small number of meteorological stations. Radar measurement of precipitation can provide more detailed space time information on precipitation but unfortunately the reliability of the data is at present still low. Other influencing factors such as soil properties also vary considerably in space and even to some extent in time (for example macropores in soils). These problems among others make models which are based on physical principles only infeasible for many practical applications. Models which to some extent use analogous concepts can partly smoothen out the effects of variability and thus can often be successfully used for practical purposes. The limitation of these models lies in the fact that some of their parameters are not directly related to physically measurable quantities. Therefore those have to be estimated from observations using calibration techniques. 
This research work was aimed at developing an efficient, practical and robust methodology for parameter estimation (calibration) for a reliable hydrological modeling at gauged and ungauged basin. The main focus of this research was to bring more insight into the process of parameter estimation techniques in hydrological modeling. The other objective of this research work was to develop a methodology that enables regional estimation of parameters of a conceptual continuous water balance model based on physical catchment descriptor, which includes the land use, soil type, stream network, elongation and topographic attributes of the catchment. It aims at improving the weakness inherent in the traditional two-step regionalization approach in estimating the relationship between the model parameters and the physical catchment descriptor. The specific objectives of the research were to answer some basic question as listed below:

- How can we estimate hydrologically reliable parameters for modeling?
- How do different objective functions map parameter space during calibration?
- Can we calibrate a hydrological model using carefully selected critical events?
- Can we improve prediction and model diagnosis by including dynamic variability in parameters?
- How can we extend hydrologically reliable parameters from gauged to ungauged basins?

In this research, several algorithms, for example, ROPE, SRWP, HOP, ICE, RDPE and SAV algorithm were developed to answer the basic questions mentioned above. These algorithms were very useful for the robust and reliable hydrological modeling in gauged and ungauged basins. 
Die hydrologische Modellierung ist zu einem anerkannten theoretischen Hilfsmittel in der Wasserwirtschaft geworden. Niederschlagsabflussmodelle werden sowohl fur kurz und mittelfristige Fragestellungen (wie z.B. Hochwasservorhersage), als auch fur langfristige Planungszwecke eingesetzt. Allerdings ist der Einsatz von hydrologischen Modellen aus verschiedenen Grunden beschrankt. Eine wesentliche Einschrankung fur den Einsatz von hydrologischen Modellen ist die Datenverfugbarkeit und die Parameterabschatzung. Abflusse werden nur an einzelnen ausgewahlten Flussquerschnitten gemessen, weshalb es nur eine geringe Anzahl von Einzugsgebieten gibt, fur die der berechnete Abfluss nachgepruft werden kann. Des Weiteren kann die hohe raumliche und zeitliche Variabilitat der meteorologischen Eingangsdaten wie Niederschlag, Temperatur oder Wind nicht vollstandig von der in der Regel geringen Anzahl an Wetterstationen erfasst werden. Radarmessungen konnen eine detailliertere raumliche und zeitliche Auflosung des Niederschlags liefern, allerdings ist die Verlasslichkeit dieser Daten immer noch gering. Andere beeinflussende Faktoren, wie z.B. Bodeneigenschaften, variieren raumlich ebenfalls deutlich und in manchen Fallen sogar zeitlich (z.B. Makroporen im Boden). Durch diese und andere Probleme sind physikalisch-basierte Modelle fur viele praktische Anwendungen nicht verwendbar. Verschiedene Modelle, die auf teilweise gleichen Konzepten basieren, konnen die Einflusse der Variabilitat herausfiltern und somit oft erfolgreich fur praktische Aufgaben eingesetzt werden. Die Einschrankung bei solchen Modellen beruht darauf, dass einige ihrer Parameter nicht direkt mit physikalisch messbaren Grosen zusammenhangen. Deshalb mussen solche Parameter durch Beobachtungen mit Hilfe von Kalibrierungsmethoden abgeschatzt werden.
Das Ziel dieser Forschungsarbeit war die Entwicklung von effektiven, praktischen und stabilen Methoden der Parameterabschatzung, welche fur eine zuverlassige hydrologische Modellierung sowohl in beobachteten als auch in unbeobachteten Einzugsgebieten eingesetzt werden sollen.
Der Schwerpunkt wurde darauf gelegt, einen vertieften Einblick im Prozess der Parameterschatzung in der hydrologischen Modellierung zu bekommen. 
Ein weiteres Ziel war die Entwicklung einer Methodik zur regionaler Parameterschatzung eines auf physikalischen Eigenschaften des Einzugsgebietes basierendes konzeptionelles kontinuierliches Wasserbilanzmodells. Unter den physikalischen Eigenschaften befinden sich Landnutzung, Bodentyp, Struktur und Lange des Flussnetzwerks sowie die Topographie des Einzugsgebietes.
Durch Schatzung der Beziehung zwischen den Modellparametern und den physikalischen Grosen im Einzugsgebiet zielt es die Methodik an, die im traditionell zweistufigen Regionalisierungsansatz angeborenen Schwachstellen zu mindern. Ferner sollten grundsatzliche Fragen beantwortet werden, wie z.B.:

-	Wie konnen die fur das Modellieren hydrologisch zuverlassige Parameter abgeschatzt werden?
-	Wie bilden unterschiedliche Zielfunktionen den Parameter-Raum wahrend der Kalibration ab?
-	Kann ein hydrologisches Modell mit sorgfaltig ausgewahlte kritischen Ereignisse kalibriert werden?
-	Konnen Vorhersage und Modelldiagnose durch Einschluss dynamischer Variabilitat in Parametern verbessert werden?
-	Wie konnen hydrologisch zuverlassige Parameter von beobachtete auf unbeobachtete Einzugsgebiete ausgeweitet werden?

In dieser Forschungsarbeit wurden zur Beantwortung der obenerwahnten Fragen mehrere Algorithmen (z.B. ROPE, SRWP, HOP, ICE, RDPE und SAV) entwickelt. Diese haben sich fur eine robuste und zuverlassige hydrologische Modellierung sowohl in beobachteten als auch in unbeobachteten Einzugsgebieten als sehr nutzlich erwiesen.

Robust parameter estimation in gauged and ungauged basins

Floods are one of the most important catastrophic consequences of extreme weather conditions which might lead to considerable losses of property and life. In recent years, several major floods having high social impact occurred in many parts of the world including Europe. Nearly every year during the last few decades major flooding has happened somewhere on the European continent. For the period 1980-2002, the greatest number of floods occurred in France (22 %), Italy (17 %) and the UK (12 %). The highest number of fatalities occurred in Italy (38 %), followed by Spain (20 %) and France (17 %) (Innovations Report online). 

Recent flooding highlights the specific need to evaluate societal vulnerability to the response of flooding to global change and climatic vulnerability. Floods becoming a part of our lives incited a new hazard culture – namely, a living with flood attitude - which is based on a more integrated approach including measures such as prevention, insurance, forecasting, warning and evacuation, and land use planning. In addition, flood risk education and awareness increased in importance.

The main scope of the study is to provide a better understanding and insight of flood causing weather conditions and to explain the links between climate and floods in the mesoscale catchments with a size of a few hundreds up to a few thousand square kilometers. The present research was carried out as a part of the SPHERE Project (Systematic, Palaeoflood and Historical data for the improvEment of flood Risk Estimation) funded by the European Union. The project duration was between March 2000 and July 2003. The Institute for Hydraulic Engineering (IWS) at the University of Stuttgart was one of the project partners responsible for the investigation of the links between floods and climate. Within this task, IWS identified the flood-prone large-scale meteorological conditions in the Study Areas – Ardeche in France and Llobregat in Spain – and developed a discharge downscaling method which enables the analysis of possible past and future floods to estimate the flood risk. For the analysis of present and past floods NCEP Re-analysis Data (gridded sea level pressure), past GCM scenarios (KIHZ Project) and historical Point Sea Level Pressure and Temperature data from several stations in Europe (IMPROVE Project) were obtained.

For the purposes of the current study, the identification of the short- and long-term relationships between climatic variability and flooding (on timescales of decades and centuries) is of great importance. Furthermore, the investigation of the changes in frequencies of flood-causing weather conditions and the identification of possible trends might help in the assessment of future flood frequency projections. 

The performance of the climatic and hydrologic models has improved considerably in the last decades. Despite the high number of sophisticated models developed, new ideas, more applications and challenging approaches are still sought. New and innovative hydrometeorological methods are required for the investigation of the flood phenomenon and for explaining the complex relationships and interactions in the nature. This work implies a first application as well.

The aim of this dissertation is to present a new method to explain flood-prone weather conditions by using discharge information observed in the selected basin. Discharge includes significant information in terms of floods, since it is regarded as one of the end- products of precipitation. Hence, it can be integrated into the investigation of flood-causing weather conditions. An automated identification procedure based on fuzzy rules is developed for flood-producing weather situations based on the large-scale observations.

In order to establish a daily link between circulation patterns and flood events, investigation of discharge increases instead of discharge is suggested. This approach is useful in mesoscale catchments with short concentration times.

A new downscaling method, different from conventionally-used downscaling methods, was developed to generate daily discharge time series directly from large-scale atmospheric information. The common way of linking large-scale information to local-scale variables is usually downscaling of precipitation and temperature from large-scale atmospheric features and to link them to discharge with a rainfall-runoff model. In this work, a stochastic discharge simulation was developed to downscale discharge from atmospheric circulation directly.

The research delivers interesting and promising results. The investigation in both Study Areas provided successful outcomes concluding that there is a strong link between the occurrence of certain circulation patterns and the occurrence of floods in the Studied Regions. 
Hochwasser entsteht als Folge extremer Wettersituationen und zahlt zu den haufigsten auftretenden Katastrophen weltweit. In den letzten Jahren wurde in vielen Teilen der Welt von einer Vielzahl von Hochwasserereignissen mit grosen Schaden berichtet. Im Zeitraum von 1980 bis 2002 haben sich auch in Europa viele Flutkatastrophen ereignet. Die haufigsten Hochwasserereignisse traten in Frankreich, Italien und Grosbritannien auf (22 %, 17 %, bzw. 17 % der in Europa gemessenen Ereignisse, Innovation-Report). Im Hinblick auf wirtschaft-liche Folgen waren in erster Linie Deutschland und Italien betroffen, beide mit einem Schadensumfang von 11 Milliarden Euro, gefolgt von Spanien und Grosbritannien mit einer Schadenshohe von 6 Milliarden Euro.

Die aktuellen Hochwasserereignisse gaben Anlass zu der Spekulation, dass der anthropogene Treibhauseffekt zu einem Anstieg der Auftrittsrate derartiger Extremereignisse im Klimasystem fuhre. Der gegenwartige Wissensstand der Klimaforschung kann einen derartigen direkten Zusammenhang nicht belegen. In heutigen Klimamodellen, die das reale Klima in mathematischen Modellen abbilden, sind einige klimarelevante Prozesse noch nicht zufriedenstellend dargestellt, z.B. die Wirkung von Wolken, Aerosolen oder die veranderliche solare Strahlung. Aus diesem Grund werden verbesserte Klimamodelle benotigt, um konkrete Aussagen uber die eventuellen Auswirkungen des Klimawandels zu ermoglichen.

In der vorliegenden Arbeit soll im Folgenden der Zusammenhang zwischen Klima und Hochwasser untersucht werden. Dafur soll ein Link zwischen grosraumigen atmospharischen Variablen (z.B. Druckfelder) und den lokalen, hydrologisch relevanten Parameter (z.B. Niederschlag, Temperatur, Strahlung, hier: Abfluss) in mesoskaligen Einzugsgebieten hergestellt werden. Dieser Zusammenhang ist von besonderer Bedeutung etwa bei der Abschatzung der Folgen von Klimaanderungen auf das Hochwassergeschehen.

Hochwasserereignisse sind meistens die Folge von ungewohnlichen Wettergeschehnissen. Um die Entstehung von Hochwasser erklaren zu konnen, wurden bereits zahlreiche Untersuchungen uber den Zusammenhang zwischen Klima und Hochwasser durchgefuhrt. Bei gemasigtem Klima fuhren hohe Niederschlagsmengen, die in mesoskaligen Einzugsgebieten innerhalb von kurzer Zeit fallen, in der Regel zu Hochwasser. Es ist offensichtlich, dass es einen engen Zusammenhang zwischen atmospharischer Zirkulation und klimatischen Variablen gibt. Bislang wurde sehr wenig uber die Zusammenhange zwischen grosraumigen atmospharischen Variablen und Abflussmengen geforscht. Diese sollen in der vorliegenden Arbeit mit Hilfe verschiedener Methoden eingehend untersucht werden.

Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wird einen direkten Zusammenhang zwischen dem grosraumigen atmospharischen Geschehen und dem Hochwasser hergestellt. Auf der Basis dieser Zusammenhange zwischen den grosraumigen atmospharischen Variablen und den lokalen Parametern wird ein Abfluss-Downscaling Modell erarbeitet. Dieses dient zur Generierung von Abfluss-Reihen in taglicher Auflosung, welche auf beobachteten Bodenluftdruckdaten oder aus GCM stammenden Klimaszenarien basiert. Somit kann ein direkter Link zwischen gros- und kleinraumigen Variablen in mesoskaligen Einzugsgebieten erstellt werden.

Basierend auf kunftigen Klimaszenarien kann die Vorgehensweise ebenfalls fur die Prognose der kunftigen Hochwasserereignisse verwendet werden.

Linking large scale meteorological conditions to floods in mesoscale catchments

This work was aimed at developing a methodology for the regionalization of parameters of a conceptual continuous water balance rainfall-runoff model based on measurable physiographic and land use/land cover characteristics of a catchment. The motivation for this work lies in the need to address two problems that have drawn much attention in recent years. Firstly, traditional methods of estimating model parameters are based on calibrating the model against observed catchment responses, such as runoff from the catchment. In the absence of such observed catchment responses, estimation of the model parameters would not be straightforward and therefore there should be a way to estimate them from some attributes of the catchment. Secondly, assessment of the hydrologic impact of changes in land use/land cover attributes of a catchment will be possible only if the changes in these attributes are reflected in the model parameters. Therefore there is a need to relate the model parameters with the land use/land cover characteristics of a catchment.

Different attempts have been made so far to develop a scheme to relate model parameters with catchment attributes. Many of the works done generally involved first calibrating a model to a number of catchments without any reference to any of the catchment properties and then fitting an empirical relationship between the parameters of the calibrated model and the catchment attributes. This approach has, however, met with limited success so far mainly due to the fact that model calibration doesn’t lead to a unique set of parameters when calibrated against observed catchment response. The parameters thus obtained are a single realisation among many other sets of parameters that would lead to a similar model performance. Therefore, the fitted empirical relationship between the parameters and the catchment properties tends to be rather random and the relationship would be weak. 

This work was therefore devoted to developing a different methodology of establishing the relationship between model parameters and the catchment attributes. A modified version of a conceptual Rainfall-Runoff model, the HBV-IWS model, was calibrated for a number of gauged sub-catchments within the German part of the Rhine basin with the dual objective of reproducing the observed catchment responses based on daily observations of meteorological forcing data and catchment response data, and achieving a stronger relationship between the parameters and the catchment attributes. The catchment attributes were implicitly incorporated in the model setup by establishing a functional relationship between them and the model parameters a-priori and an automatic model calibration procedure was implemented to estimate the optimum regional relationship using a non-linear optimisation routine. The catchment attributes used for regionalizing the model parameters include a range of readily measurable physical catchment properties indexing land use and physiographic properties.

Since the model parameters are estimated based on readily measurable catchment attributes, estimation of model parameters corresponding to ungauged catchments is possible, rendering the scheme potentially suitable for modelling the runoff from such catchments. The results obtained from validation of the parameter estimation scheme in gauged subcatchments that were not used in deriving the regional relationship between the model parameters and the catchment descriptors suggest that the model performances in terms of different evaluation criteria in these subcatchments are comparable with that of the catchments used to derive the regional relationships. 

The methodology was further implemented in the prediction of the hydrological consequence of land use changes, as land use was also considered for regionalization of the model parameters. The changes in the catchment reaction obtained for different land use change scenarios were consistent with the physical explanations that can be given about the effect of the scenarios on the runoff generation of a catchment and were supportive of the findings of many of the previous studies conducted on this issue using different approaches. The results indicate that there is an increase both in the long-term water yield and event based runoff from catchments due to urbanization, while they indicate a reduction in both attributes of the catchment response due to afforestation. 
Diese Arbeit zielt darauf ab, eine Methode zur Regionalisierung der parameter in einem konzeptionellen Niederschlag-Abfluss-Modell zu entwickeln. Das untersuchte Modell berucksichtigt eine kontinuierliche Wasserbilanz und basiert auf physiographischen Eigenschaften sowie messbaren Landnutzungsdaten des jeweiligen Einzugsgebiets.

Motivation waren zwei Fragestellungen, die in den letzten Jahren wachsende Aufmerksamkeit auf sich zogen:
Traditionelle Methoden der Parameter schatzung basieren auf einer Kalibrierung des Modells mittels beobachteter Einzugsgebiets-Reaktionen auf jeweilige Niederschlags-ereignisse. Es sollte aber zum einen eine Moglichkeit geben, diese Parameter aus den Eigenschaften des Einzugsgebiets abzuschatzen, wenn keine Abfluss-Beobachtungen vorliegen. Zum anderen sind die Auswirkungen einer sich andernden Landnutzung in einem Einzugsgebiet nur dann erfassbar, wenn die entsprechenden Grosen auch in den Parametern des Modells berucksichtigt sind. Aus diesen zwei Punkten ergibt sich die Notwendigkeit, die Modellparameter mit den Landnutzungsdaten und anderen Einzugsgebietseigenschaften zu verbinden.

Bisher wurden verschiedene Ansatze entwickelt, um die Modell-Parameter mit den Charakteristika des Einzugsgebiets in Beziehung zu setzen. Viele der Arbeiten folgten dem Prinzip, zuerst ein Modell auf einige Einzugsgebiete zu kalibrieren und anschliesend eine empirische Beziehung zwischen den Parametern des kalibrierten Models und den Eigenschaften der Einzugsgebiete anzupassen . Dieser Ansatz war bisher jedoch nur von begrenztem Erfolg. Dies liegt hauptsachlich daran, dass die Kalibrierung mit beobachteten Niederschlag-Abfluss-Ereignissen nicht zu einem eindeutigen Parameter-Satz fuhrt. Die erzeugten Parameter sind also nur eine Realisation unter vielen anderen moglichen Parameter-Satzen, die zu ahnlicher Modellgute fuhren wurden. Folglich ist die Beziehung zwischen den angepassten Modell-Parametern und den Charakteristika des Einzugsgebietes eher schwach.

Deshalb sollte in dieser Arbeit eine andere Methode entwickelt werden, um die Parameter des Modells mit den Kennwerten des Einzugsgebietes zu verbinden. Verwendet wurde das HBV-IWS Modell, eine modifizierte Version eines vorhandenen konzeptionellen Niederschlag-Abfluss-Modells. Die Kalibrierung wurde durchgefuhrt fur einige mit Messpegeln bestuckte Teileinzugsgebiete der deutschen Seite des Rhein-Einzugsgebiets. Dabei bestand eine doppelte Zielsetzung. Erstens sollte die Reaktion der Einzugsgebiete auf Niederschlags-ereignisse auf der Basis von taglichen Beobachtungen meteorologischer Daten vom Modell nachgebildet werden. Zweitens sollte ein starkerer Zusammenhang erreicht werden zwischen den Modellparametern und den Kennwerten des Einzugsgebietes. Die Attribute der Einzugsgebiete wurden dazu implizit in den Modellaufbau eingegliedert. Es wurde a priori ein funktionaler Zusammenhang zu den Modelparametern festgelegt und anschliesend ein automatischer Ablauf zur Modellkalibrierung implementiert. Mit einer nicht-linearen Routine wurde dabei die optimale regionale Beziehung zwischen Einzugsgebietsdaten und Modellparametern berechnet. Die Kennwerte des Einzugsgebietes, welche fur die Regionalisierung der Modell-Parameter genutzt werden, beinhalten direkt messbare physikalische Eigenschaften des Einzugsgebietes, welche die Landnutzung und die physiographischen Bedingungen charakterisieren.

Da ja die Abschatzung der Modellparameter nun auf direkt messbaren Einzugsgebiets-Kennwerten basiert, ist es moglich, diese Parameter auch fur Einzugsgebiete ohne Pegel festzulegen. Dadurch kann es das System potentiell leisten, den Abfluss in solchen Einzugsgebieten ebenfalls zu modellieren. Dies wurde anhand von Teileinzugsgebieten mit Pegeln validiert, die nicht fur die Kalibrierung verwendet wurden. Die Validierung lasst darauf schliesen, dass die Anpassungsgute des Modells in Bezug auf verschiedene Bewertungskriterien vergleichbar ist, ob es sich nun um die fur das Modell neuen Einzugsgebiete handelt oder um jene, die verwendet wurden, um die regionalen Beziehungen herzuleiten.

Zusatzlich wurde diese Methode dazu eingesetzt, die Auswirkungen von veranderter Landnutzung auf die Abflussbildung vorherzusagen, da die Landnutzung in der Regionalisierung der Modellparameter berucksichtigt wird. Wenn auf ein Einzugsgebiet verschiedene Szenarien einer geanderten Landnutzung angesetzt werden, dann sind die Anderungen im simulierten Abfluss aus dem Einzugsgebiet konsistent mit der physikalischen Erklarung, wie sich die Landnutzung auf die Abflussbildung auswirkt. Die Ergebnisse stutzen daruber hinaus die Befunde vieler anderer Untersuchungen dieses Problems, die mit unterschiedlichsten Ansatzen durchgefuhrt wurden. Bei zunehmender Urbanisierung zeigt sich gleichermasen ein Einstieg im langzeitlichen Abfluss, wie im ereignisabhangigen Abfluss aus dem Einzugsgebiet. Als Antwort auf eine Aufforstung hingegen, reduzieren sich beide Grosen.

Regionalization of parameters of a conceptual rainfall runoff model

This thesis has two foci. 
The first focus is the development of a so-called simulation-optimization model. An optimization algorithm, Simulated Annealing (SA), is coupled with a Multiphase/ Multicomponent simulator, MUFTE-UG, to solve a real-world simulation-optimization problem (henceforth MUFTE-SA). In this thesis, the simulation-optimization model is tailored to the study of better (optimal) methane-extraction strategies from an abandoned coal mine in the Ruhrgebiet, Germany. The question of how to deal with the methane from abandoned coal mines is always of great concern for the administrators. Thus, I try to provide one numerical tool to support this decision making in the context of extraction-well operations. The skills required for modelling, for example using computational fluid dynamic theories, have been making progress for the past couple of decades. So nowadays, additionally, the importance of developing a so-called decision-support system integrating these skills is starting to be noticed. This simlation-optimization model is designed to answer these new requirements.Although, the use of the simulation-optimization model in this thesis is limited to the investigation of better methane-extraction strategies, the model itself can be utilized anologously for many processes whose abstracted aspects can be modelled by the multiphase/ multicomponent model. In the past, this sort of simulation-optimization model could only be applied to an artificially designed example since the computational time needed to make real-world simulations is generally enormous, although optimization procedures require dozens, hundreds, thousands of iterations. Thus, a pseudo parallelization design of the optimization procedure is proposed in order to use a parallel computer, having succeeded in reducing the total computational time by a factor of 23. 
The second focus is to make comparative studies using different model concepts (i.e. a two-phase and a two-phase/ three-component model) for the simulation of methane-migration and methane-water interaction processes in saturated coal mines. This work includes the new development of a two-phase (liquid, gas) / three-component (water, air and methane) model in order to incorporate mass-transfer processes between the phases. Considering the mass transfer processes between the phases sometimes becomes very important, especially when the coal mine is modelled after groundwater rebound. This is because the dissolution of the methane in the liquid phase is relatively high under some conditions. 
Diese Dissertation behandelt zwei Kernpunkte: erstens die Entwicklung eines Simulations-Optimierungsmodells fur Mehrphasenstromungen im Untergrund und zweitens Vergleichsuntersuchungen von verschiedenen Modellierungskonzepten.
Zur Entwicklung des Simulations-Optimierungsmodells wurde ein Optimierungsalgorithmus, Simulated Annealing, programmiert und mit einem Mehrphasen-Mehrkomponenten-Simulationsprogramm (MUFTE-UG) gekoppelt. Dieses Simulations-Optimierungsmodell wird auf die Untersuchung von optimalen Methan-Extraktionsstrategien fur ein stillgelegtes Kohlebergwerk im Ruhrgebiet zugeschnitten. Die Frage, wie mit dem Methan aus stillgelegten Kohlebergwerken umgegangen werden soll, ist von groser Bedeutung. Einerseits ist einer moglichen Explosionsgefahr durch unkontrollierte Methanmigration vorzubeugen, anderseits wird die wirtschaftliche Nutzung des Methans zur Energieerzeugung untersucht. Deshalb versuche ich, ein numerisches Werkzeug zur Verfugung zu stellen, das diese Entscheidungen in Bezug auf den Betrieb von Extraktionsbrunnen unterstutzt. Die Moglichkeiten der Modellierung von realen Lagerstatten haben innerhalb der letzten Jahrzehnte stark zugenommen, da leistungsfahige numerische Methoden und Rechner entwickelt worden sind. Deshalb wird heutzutage die Bedeutung der Entwicklung sogenannter decision-support Systeme, die diese Kenntnisse integrieren, mehr und mehr geschatzt. Dieses Simulations-Optimierungsmodell stellt eine Antwort auf diese neuen Anforderungen dar. Obwohl das Simulations-Optimierungsmodell in dieser Dissertation auf die Untersuchung besserer Methan-Extraktionsstrategien beschrankt ist, kann das Modell analog fur viele andere Anwendungen verwendet werden, die durch ein Mehrphasen-Mehrkomponentenmodell modelliert werden konnen. In der Vergangenheit konnte diese Art von Simulations-Optimierungsmodell nur auf kunstliche Beispiele angewandt werden, da die Rechenzeit fur praktische Simulationen im Allgemeinen enorm ist. Da Optimierungsprozeduren Hunderte von Iterationen benotigen, wird eine pseudo-parallele Ausfuhrung der Optimierungsprozedur durchgefuhrt, um Parallelrechner verwenden zu konnen. Damit kann die Rechenzeit dieser Prozedur um einen Faktor 23 verringert werden.
Der zweite Punkt dieser Arbeit sind Vergleichsuntersuchungen unter Verwendung verschiedener Modellkonzepte (d.h., eines Zweiphasen- und eines Zweiphasen - Dreikomponentenmodells) fur die Simulation von Methanmigration und Methan-Wasser-Interaktionsprozessen in den gefluteten Kohlebergwerken. Diese Arbeit schliest die Neuentwicklung eines Zweiphasen (Flussigkeit, Gas) / Dreikomponenten (Wasser, Luft und Methan) - Modells ein, um den Massentransfer zwischen den Phasen beschreiben zu konnen. Die Betrachtung des Massentransfers zwischen den Phasen wird besonders dann sehr wichtig, wenn das Kohlebergwerk nach dem Grundwasseranstieg modelliert wird. Das liegt daran, dass die Loslichkeit des Methans in der Flussigphase unter bestimmten Bedingungen relativ hoch ist.
