Journal ArticleDOI

Forskolin: unique diterpene activator of adenylate cyclase in membranes and in intact cells.

TL;DR: F Forskolin would appear to activate adenylate cyclase through a unique mechanism involving both direct activation of the enzyme and facilitation or potentiation of the modulation of enzyme activity by receptors or the guanyl nucleotide-binding subunit, or both.
Journal ArticleDOI

Forskolin: a specific stimulator of adenylyl cyclase or a diterpene with multiple sites of action?

TL;DR: The cAMP-independent effects of forskolin and the structural similarity between forSkolin and other physiologically important substances such as hexoses and steroids with respect to potential forskol binding sites are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

A 113Cd NMR study of calmodulin and its interaction with calcium, magnesium and trifluoperazine

TL;DR: Evidence from a number of studies indicate that calcium binding to calmodulin is accompanied by pronounced changes in its solution conformation, and there is good evidence that calmoduliu represents an ubiquitous calcium regulatory protein whose primary sequence is highly conserved throughout all eucaryotic cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Frog secretions and hunting magic in the upper Amazon: identification of a peptide that interacts with an adenosine receptor.

TL;DR: A frog used for "hunting magic" by several groups of Panoan-speaking Indians in the borderline between Brazil and Peru is identified as Phyllomedusa bicolor, which has a peptide that is named adenoregulin, with the sequence GLWSKIKEVGKEAAKAAAKAAGKAALGAVSEAV as determined from mass spectrometry and Edman degradation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Forskolin photoaffinity labels with specificity for adenylyl cyclase and the glucose transporter

TL;DR: Two photolabels, N-(3-(4-azido-3-125I-phenyl)-propionamide)-6- aminoethylcarbamylforskolin( 125I-6-AIPP-Fsk) and N-aminoethylcarbamyl-7- desacetylforsKolin (125I) are high affinity photolABels with specificity for adenylyl cyclase and the glucose transporter, respectively.
