Journal ArticleDOI
A simple, rapid, and sensitive DNA assay procedure.
C Labarca,Kenneth Paigen +1 more
TL;DR: The dissociation of chromatin is critical to accurate determinations of DNA in biological materials using this method, which can detect as little as 10 ng of DNA with rather unsophisticated instrumentation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Density alterations associated with transducing ability in the bacteriophage lambda
TL;DR: An examination of ten independently arising populations of transducing phages showed that each had a different but essentially uniform density, and it was proposed that the unequal exchanges giving rise to the density alterations are the result of poor homology and incomplete pairing between the Gal region of the bacterial chromosome and the region of λ which is deleted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Health and population effects of rare gene knockouts in adult humans with related parents.
Vagheesh M. Narasimhan,Karen A. Hunt,Dan Mason,Christopher L. Baker,Konrad J. Karczewski,Konrad J. Karczewski,Michael R. Barnes,Anthony H. Barnett,Christopher M. Bates,Srikanth Bellary,Nicholas A. Maher,Eamonn R. Maher,Richard C. Trembath,Richard C. Trembath,Daniel G. MacArthur,Daniel G. MacArthur,John Wright,Richard Durbin,David A. van Heel +41 more
TL;DR: The results show that meiotic recombination sites are localized away from PRDM9-dependent hotspots, Thus, natural LOF variants inform on essential genetic loci and demonstratePRDM9 redundancy in humans.
Book ChapterDOI
Catabolite Repression and other Control Mechanisms in Carbohydrate Utilization
Kenneth Paigen,Beverly Williams +1 more
TL;DR: This chapter focuses on three devices: catabolite repression, transient repression, and catabolites inhibition, which regulate the utilization of many carbohydrates, which influences many aspects of microbial growth and metabolism.
Journal ArticleDOI
The recombinational anatomy of a mouse chromosome.
Kenneth Paigen,Jin P. Szatkiewicz,Kathryn Sawyer,Nicole Leahy,Emil D Parvanov,Siemon H. S. Ng,Joel H. Graber,Karl W. Broman,Petko M. Petkov +8 more
TL;DR: It appears that the regulation of mammalian recombination is a complex, dynamic process involving multiple factors reflecting species, sex, individual variation within species, and the properties of individual hotspots.
