TL;DR: Four examples, namely material selection for hip joint, fuel cell, product operating at high temperature and a sailing boat mast, have been illustrated to justify the efficacy of the proposed multi-criteria decision-making model.
Abstract: Material selection is becoming more complex with the availability of wide variety of engineering materials with diverse features. With the introduction of Industry 4.0 and significant development in additive manufacturing, all users including medical practitioners are getting many exotic materials to be used for betterment of mankind. In this paper, we focus on development of a new multi-criteria decision-making model based on value constraints in decision-making for selection and ranking of materials. The proposed model makes fusion of full consistency method with ideal solutions with constraint on values for decision-making with flexibility and accuracy. This work considered value constraints on evaluation criteria with robustness in decision-making under conflicting environments. Four examples, namely material selection for hip joint, fuel cell, product operating at high temperature and a sailing boat mast, have been illustrated to justify the efficacy of the proposed method. The results have been compared and validated with published literature works and it has been found that the proposed method is worthy in terms of usefulness and runtime.
