Journal ArticleDOI

Blood pressure, stroke, and coronary heart disease: Part 2, short-term reductions in blood pressure: overview of randomised drug trials in their epidemiological context

TL;DR: A sufficiently high risk of stroke (perhaps because of age, blood pressure, or, in particular, history of cerebrovascular disease) may be the clearest indication for antihypertensive treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI

A randomized trial of aspirin and beta-carotene among U.S. physicians.

TL;DR: The large size of the trial, its simple design, and the use of highly motivated, dedicated, and health-conscious physicians should allow us to perform definitive tests of whether low-dose aspirin consumption reduces total cardiovascular mortality and beta-carotene decreases cancer incidence in a healthy population.
Journal ArticleDOI

Clinical suspicion of autopsy-proven thrombotic and tumor pulmonary embolism in cancer patients.

TL;DR: The findings indicate that tumor PE is more difficult to diagnose clinically and may be misdiagnosed as thrombotic PE, and that in all cancer patients, the presence of both thROMbotic and tumor PE should be considered because of similarities in their clinical features.
Journal ArticleDOI

The community-based randomized trials of pharmacologic treatment of mild-to-moderate hypertension

TL;DR: A significant benefit of pharmacologic treatment of mild-to-moderate hypertension on vascular mortality and on all as well as fatal stroke is demonstrated and possible benefits of treatment on all and fatal myocardial infarction are suggested which should be investigated further.
