TL;DR: This chapter presents the development of SW and adaptive SW controller for WHNCS, a two-degree-of-freedom controller in which the first degree of freedom gives good setpoint response while the second level gives good disturbance rejection as well as good robustness to model mismatch and other uncertainties.
Abstract: This chapter presents the development of SW and adaptive SW controller for WHNCS. The SW technique is a powerful and simple method based on the feed-forward strategy. The advantage of this method is that it can be employed to improve systems performance with respect to setpoint tracking ability and disturbance rejection capability. The design gives a two-degree-of-freedom controller in which the first degree of freedom gives good setpoint response while the second degree of freedom gives good disturbance rejection as well as good robustness to model mismatch and other uncertainties. This type of controller adequately falls within the class of controllers to solve the problem of stochastic delay, random noise, and uncertainties.

TL;DR: To solve the optimization problem, this study adopts the Mixed Integer Optimization using Genetic Algorithm (MIOGA) technique and it is revealed that compared to single PV farm, the integration of two PV farms reduced more energy loss and reduced the total size of PV farms.
Abstract: This chapter proposes Big Data Analytics for the sizing and locating of solar photovoltaic farms to reduce the total energy loss in distribution networks. The Big Data Analytics, which uses the advance statistical and computational tools for the handling of large data sets, has been adopted for modeling the 15 years of solar weather data. Total Power Loss Index (TPLI) is formulated as the main objective function for the optimization problem and meanwhile bus voltage deviations and penetrations of the PV farms are calculated. To solve the optimization problem, this study adopts the Mixed Integer Optimization using Genetic Algorithm (MIOGA) technique. By considering different time varying voltage dependent load models, the proposed algorithm is applied on IEEE 33 bus and IEEE 69 bus test distribution networks and optimum results are acquired. From the results, it is revealed that compared to single PV farm, the integration of two PV farms reduced more energy loss and reduced the total size of PV farms. Big Data Analytics is found very effective for the storing, handling, processing and the visualizing of the weather Big Data. © 2018, IGI Global.

TL;DR: In this article , a transactive energy management system (TEMS) architecture with different market clearing strategies is proposed for TEMS to ensure profitable power transactions between the neighboring end-users.
Abstract: The recent advancements in demand-side management techniques add significant benefits to the distribution systems. One such technique is transactive energy management systems (TEMS) which motivate the energy end-users to take part in local energy trading. The end-users can effectively increase the monetary benefits by trading the surplus generation/demand within the local energy market (LEM). The LEM operator frames a viable market clearing strategy to fix the market clearing price to enhance the monetary benefits of all the market players. In this study, LEM architecture with different market clearing strategies is proposed for TEMS to ensure profitable power transactions between the neighboring end-users. An optimal energy management algorithm is also proposed for time scheduling the operation of flexible loads and batteries, considering dynamics in end-users’ behavior, variations in utility parameters, and the intermittent nature of renewable power generation. Further, an optimal load scheduling algorithm is developed at the end-users’ premises to improve the profits in the LEM. Correspondingly, the trading strategies are extended to increase market reliability by penalizing participants for their abnormal activities in energy trading. The proposed framework is validated with different case studies considering ten residential participants in a locality.

TL;DR: This research work incorporates State-Space Model for unknown system-parameter identification and its implementation on Gas Pressure Process Plant using MPC, one of the robust and effective controllers due to impressive control performance in different applications previously.
Abstract: Nonlinear behaviour of the systems happens to be a common problem in industrial processes. They cause a large amount of time, resources and efforts to be utilized in order to deal with them. A Major hurdle in Nonlinear Industrial Processes is system modeling. Due to this reason, several methods and techniques have been designed and developed in order to improve the overall control performance in industrial process control. Model based controllers have been developed and implemented on various applications with promising results. Their main benefit is they can identify and tune unknown system parameters in real-time. This paper focuses on real-time controller development and its implementation on Gas Pressure Process Plant using MPC. MPC is considered to be one of the robust and effective controllers due to impressive control performance in different applications previously. MPC makes use of a model for system identification and based upon that, it can dynamically send next control move for the system. This research work incorporates State-Space Model for unknown system-parameter identification. The identified parameters will be utilized by MPC for control law development. The proposed methodology is validated by real-time experimental results on the aforementioned system.

TL;DR: In this article, a novel three-dimensional autonomous chaotic system is proposed, which contains four variational parameters, a cubic nonlinearity term (i.e., product of all the three states) and exhibits a chaotic attractor in numerical simulations.
Abstract: In this paper, a novel three-dimensional autonomous chaotic system is proposed. The proposed system contains four variational parameters, a cubic nonlinearity term (i.e. product of all the three states) and exhibits a chaotic attractor in numerical simulations. The basic dynamic properties of the system are analyzed by means of equilibrium points, Eigen values and Lyapunov exponents. Finally, the commensurate and non-commensurate fractional order form of the system which exhibits chaotic attractor is also analyzed.

TL;DR: The principles of a number of energy harvesting technologies applicable to industrial machines are overviews by investigating the power consumption of WSNs and the potential energy sources in mechanical systems.
Abstract: Condition monitoring can reduce machine breakdown losses, increase productivity and operation safety, and therefore deliver significant benefits to many industries. The emergence of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) with smart processing ability play an ever-growing role in online condition monitoring of machines. WSNs are cost-effective networking systems for machine condition monitoring. It avoids cable usage and eases system deployment in industry, which leads to significant savings. Powering the nodes is one of the major challenges for a true WSN system, especially when positioned at inaccessible or dangerous locations and in harsh environments. Promising energy harvesting technologies have attracted the attention of engineers because they convert microwatt or milliwatt level power from the environment to implement maintenance-free machine condition monitoring systems with WSNs. The motivation of this review is to investigate the energy sources, stimulate the application of energy harvesting based WSNs, and evaluate the improvement of energy harvesting systems for mechanical condition monitoring. This paper overviews the principles of a number of energy harvesting technologies applicable to industrial machines by investigating the power consumption of WSNs and the potential energy sources in mechanical systems. Many models or prototypes with different features are reviewed, especially in the mechanical field. Energy harvesting technologies are evaluated for further development according to the comparison of their advantages and disadvantages. Finally, a discussion of the challenges and potential future research of energy harvesting systems powering WSNs for machine condition monitoring is made.

TL;DR: This review provides a concise and comprehensive summary of the progress made in the development of VO-FC analytical and computational methods with application to the simulation of complex physical systems.
Abstract: Variable-order fractional operators were conceived and mathematically formalized only in recent years. The possibility of formulating evolutionary governing equations has led to the successful application of these operators to the modelling of complex real-world problems ranging from mechanics, to transport processes, to control theory, to biology. Variable-order fractional calculus (VO-FC) is a relatively less known branch of calculus that offers remarkable opportunities to simulate interdisciplinary processes. Recognizing this untapped potential, the scientific community has been intensively exploring applications of VO-FC to the modelling of engineering and physical systems. This review is intended to serve as a starting point for the reader interested in approaching this fascinating field. We provide a concise and comprehensive summary of the progress made in the development of VO-FC analytical and computational methods with application to the simulation of complex physical systems. More specifically, following a short introduction of the fundamental mathematical concepts, we present the topic of VO-FC from the point of view of practical applications in the context of scientific modelling.
