TL;DR: The cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers amyloid beta 1–42, total tau, and phosphorylated tau are used increasingly for Alzheimer's disease research and patient management, but there are large variations in biomarker measurements among and within laboratories.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neurofilament markers for ALS correlate with extent of upper and lower motor neuron disease.
Koen Poesen,Maxim De Schaepdryver,Beatrice Stubendorff,Benjamin Gille,Petra Muckova,Sindy Wendler,Tino Prell,Thomas M. Ringer,Heidrun Rhode,Olivier Stevens,Kristl G. Claeys,Goedele Couwelier,Ann D'Hondt,Nikita Lamaire,Petra Tilkin,Dimphna Van Reijen,Sarah Gourmaud,Nadin Fedtke,Bianka Heiling,Matthias Rumpel,A. Rödiger,A. Gunkel,Otto W. Witte,Claire Paquet,Rik Vandenberghe,Julian Grosskreutz,Philip Van Damme +26 more
TL;DR: This study provides Class II evidence that elevated concentrations of CSF pNfH and NfL can accurately identify patients with ALS and shows an added value as diagnostic biomarkers for ALS, whereas the prognostic value of pNFH andNfL warrants further investigation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of Tumor Angiogenesis and Growth by a Small-Molecule Multi-FGF Receptor Blocker with Allosteric Properties
Françoise Bono,Frederik De Smet,Corentin Herbert,Katrien De Bock,Maria Georgiadou,Pierre Fons,Marc Tjwa,Chantal Alcouffe,Annelii Ny,Marc Bianciotto,Bart Jonckx,Masahiro Murakami,Anthony A. Lanahan,Christof Michielsen,David Sibrac,Frédérique Dol-Gleizes,Massimiliano Mazzone,Serena Zacchigna,Jean-Pascal Herault,Christian Fischer,Patrice Rigon,Carmen Ruiz de Almodovar,Filip Claes,Isabelle Blanc,Koen Poesen,Jie Zhang,Inmaculada Segura,Geneviève Gueguen,Marie-Françoise Bordes,Diether Lambrechts,Roselyne Broussy,Marlies Van de Wouwer,Corinne Michaux,Toru Shimada,Isabelle Jean,Silvia Blacher,Agnès Noël,Patrick Motte,Eran Rom,Jean-Marie Rakic,Susumu Katsuma,Paul Schaeffer,Avner Yayon,Ann Van Schepdael,Harald Schwalbe,Francesco Luigi Gervasio,Geert Carmeliet,Jef Rozensky,Mieke Dewerchin,Michael Simons,Arthur Christopoulos,Jean-Marc Herbert,Peter Carmeliet +52 more
TL;DR: Oral delivery of SSR inhibits arthritis and tumors that are relatively refractory to anti-vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 antibodies, and orally-active extracellularly acting small-molecule modulators of RTKs with allosteric properties can be developed and may offer opportunities to improve anticancer treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Novel Role for Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) Receptor-1 and Its Ligand VEGF-B in Motor Neuron Degeneration
Koen Poesen,Diether Lambrechts,Philip Van Damme,Joke Dhondt,Florian L.P. Bender,Nicolas Frank,Elke Bogaert,Bart Claes,Line Heylen,An Verheyen,Katrien Raes,Marc Tjwa,Ulf Eriksson,Masabumi Shibuya,Rony Nuydens,Ludo Van Den Bosch,Theo Meert,Rudi D'Hooge,Michael Sendtner,Wim Robberecht,Peter Carmeliet +20 more
TL;DR: The neuroprotective activity of VEGF-B, in combination with its negligible angiogenic/permeability activity, offers attractive opportunities for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multicenter evaluation of neurofilaments in early symptom onset amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Emily Feneberg,Patrick Oeckl,Petra Steinacker,Federico Verde,Christian Barro,Philip Van Damme,Elizabeth Gray,Julian Grosskreutz,Claude Jardel,Jens Kuhle,Sonja Koerner,Foudil Lamari,Maria del Mar Amador,Benjamin Mayer,Claudia Morelli,Petra Muckova,Susanne Petri,Koen Poesen,Joost Raaphorst,François Salachas,Vincenzo Silani,Beatrice Stubendorff,Martin R Turner,Marcel M. Verbeek,Jochen H. Weishaupt,Patrick Weydt,Albert C. Ludolph,Markus Otto +27 more
TL;DR: This study provides Class II evidence that CSF and serum Nf concentrations discriminate ALS with early symptom onset from other neurologic diseases.
