TL;DR: In this paper, a shared memory server is used to acquire the customer information on the relevant task and then the acquired customer information are stored in a customer information data base 1010.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable staffs offer all necessary information to customers and to immediately give advice to them by judging automatically information which are necessary for the staffs and not acquired yet by them and then questioning the customers on such information. SOLUTION: When a task is known, the type of this task is inputted to a task designation means 1006. The means 1006 instructs a shared memory server 1003 to acquire the customer information on the relevant task. The server 1003 checks the customer information necessary for the task via a staff task question item definition data base 1009. If the necessary information is not contained in the data base 1009, the server 1003 instructs an information acquisition interaction means 1005 of a customer terminal 1001 to question a customer A. Then the acquired customer information are stored in a customer information data base 1010. Thus, a shared system of such a constitution automatically decides the information that are necessary and not acquired yet by the staffers 1 and 2 and then questions the customer A on such information. Thereby, the staffers can immediately give advice to the customer A. COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO

TL;DR: In this paper, a service program detects whether or not an input and an output device to be used can be operated in a user's terminal and assigns each operable substitute device to each of inoperable input and output devices, and a user interface part in the service program 112 is generated according to the substitute device.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for changing a user interface according to an input and output device even when the kinds of input and output devices connected with terminal equipment are different in a service program to be executed by a user's terminal. SOLUTION: A service program 112 detects whether or not an input and an output device to be used can be operated in a user's terminal 102. Then, each operable substitute device is assigned to each of inoperable input and output devices, and a user interface part in the service program 112 is generated according to the substitute device. Thus, a user and the service program 112 can realize man-machine communication through the substitute device.

TL;DR: In this paper, a cooperative learning server, when it receives a request from a learner client for the operation of the learning resource, specifies the present level of learning and the role of the learner by an access management means and judges whether or not the operation is permissible.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manage the learner's right of access to learning resource and to efficiently monitor the state of learning. SOLUTION: In the system for supporting cooperative learning, a plan of learning and conditions of monitoring learning are described in advance based on activity model data that can express the relation between a role and an action to the learning resource and learning process definition data for managing the level of learning. A cooperative learning server, when it receives a request from a learner client for the operation of the learning resource, specifies the present level of learning and the role of the learner by an access management means and judges whether or not the operation of the learning resource is permissible. TL;DR: In this paper, a system and method for providing automatic and coordinated sharing of conversational resources, e.g., functions and arguments, between network-connected servers and devices and their corresponding applications is presented.
Abstract: A system and method for providing automatic and coordinated sharing of conversational resources, e.g., functions and arguments, between network-connected servers and devices and their corresponding applications. In one aspect, a system for providing automatic and coordinated sharing of conversational resources includes a network having a first and second network device, the first and second network device each comprising a set of conversational resources, a dialog manager for managing a conversation and executing calls requesting a conversational service, and a communication stack for communicating messages over the network using conversational protocols, wherein the conversational protocols establish coordinated network communication between the dialog managers of the first and second network device to automatically share the set of conversational resources of the first and second network device, when necessary, to perform their respective requested conversational service.

TL;DR: In this article, the results of the local and remote speech recognition engines are combined based, at least in part, on logic stored by one or more components of the client/server architecture.
Abstract: Techniques for combining the results of multiple recognizers in a distributed speech recognition architecture. Speech data input to a client device is encoded and processed both locally and remotely by different recognizers configured to be proficient at different speech recognition tasks. The client/server architecture is configurable to enable network providers to specify a policy directed to a trade-off between reducing recognition latency perceived by a user and usage of network resources. The results of the local and remote speech recognition engines are combined based, at least in part, on logic stored by one or more components of the client/server architecture.

TL;DR: In this paper, a multimodal browser for rendering a multi-modal document on an end system defining a host can include a visual browser component for rendering visual content, if any, of the multimodi-al document, and a voice browser component, which can determine which of a plurality of speech processing configuration is used by the host in rendering the voice-based content.
Abstract: A multimodal browser for rendering a multimodal document on an end system defining a host can include a visual browser component for rendering visual content, if any, of the multimodal document, and a voice browser component for rendering voice-based content, if any, of the multimodal document. The voice browser component can determine which of a plurality of speech processing configuration is used by the host in rendering the voice-based content. The determination can be based upon the resources of the host running the application. The determination also can be based upon a processing instruction contained in the application.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose an architecture that combines multiple depth cameras and multiple projectors to cover a specified space (e.g., a room) and allows the development of a multi-dimensional model of objects in the space, as well as the ability to project graphics in a controlled fashion on the same objects.
Abstract: Architecture that combines multiple depth cameras and multiple projectors to cover a specified space (e.g., a room). The cameras and projectors are calibrated, allowing the development of a multi-dimensional (e.g., 3D) model of the objects in the space, as well as the ability to project graphics in a controlled fashion on the same objects. The architecture incorporates the depth data from all depth cameras, as well as color information, into a unified multi-dimensional model in combination with calibrated projectors. In order to provide visual continuity when transferring objects between different locations in the space, the user's body can provide a canvas on which to project this interaction. As the user moves body parts in the space, without any other object, the body parts can serve as temporary “screens” for “in-transit” data.

TL;DR: In this article, an interaction management module (IMM) is described for allowing users to engage an interactive surface in a collaborative environment using various input devices, such as keyboard-type devices and mouse type devices.
Abstract: An interaction management module (IMM) is described for allowing users to engage an interactive surface in a collaborative environment using various input devices, such as keyboard-type devices and mouse-type devices. The IMM displays digital objects on the interactive surface that are associated with the devices in various ways. The digital objects can include input display interfaces, cursors, soft-key input mechanisms, and so on. Further, the IMM provides a mechanism for establishing a frame of reference for governing the placement of each cursor on the interactive surface. Further, the IMM provides a mechanism for allowing users to make a digital copy of a physical article placed on the interactive surface. The IMM also provides a mechanism which duplicates actions taken on the digital copy with respect to the physical article, and vice versa.
