TL;DR: In this paper, a flat substrate is used as a back plate for sealing a high-reliability, highperformance, high function display element by using an ITO layer, an organic layer, and a transparent cathode layer.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-reliability, high-performance, high-function display element by using a flat substrate as a back plate for sealing. SOLUTION: An ITO layer 3021, an organic layer 3031 and a transparent cathode layer 3041 are formed in sequence on the surface of a transparent substrate 3011. A transparent substrate 3012 having a flat surface is installed against the transparent substrate 3011, and an ITO layer 3022, an organic layer 3032 and a transparent cathode layer 3042 are likewise formed in sequence on the surface of the transparent substrate 3012. A resin 305 containing fine particles 306a and a moisture absorbent 306b with a particle size smaller than that of the fine particles 306a are filled at the peripheral section of the transparent substrate to form an adhesive layer, and the effect on a luminescent element by the infiltration of moisture is suppressed. When the electric field is applied between the ITO layer and the cathode layer, both organic layers luminesce, and luminescence is observed on both sides of this luminescence device respectively.

TL;DR: An organic electroluminescent device comprises a pair of electrodes, and a layer structure provided between them, including a charge transport layer capable of transporting electrons or holes and an emission layer comprising a major proportion of an organic material capable of emitting light as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: An organic electroluminescent device comprises a pair of electrodes, and a layer structure provided between the pair of electrodes and including a charge transport layer capable of transporting electrons or holes and an emission layer comprising a major proportion of an organic material capable of emitting light on application of a voltage thereto via the pair of electrodes. The organic material undergoes concentration quenching and the emission layer has a thickness of 4 nm or below. The emission layer may be made of an electroluminescent organic material, which has a fluorescent lifetime shorter than an organic material present in the charge transport layer.
