TL;DR: A new approach to perform effective personalization based on Semantic web technologies achieved in a tutoring system is presented, which incorporates a recommender system based on collaborative tagging techniques that adapts to the interests and level of students' knowledge.
Abstract: This monograph provides a comprehensive research review of intelligent techniques for personalisation of e-learning systems. Special emphasis is given to intelligent tutoring systems as a particular class of e-learning systems, which support and improve the learning and teaching of domain-specific knowledge. A new approach to perform effective personalization based on Semantic web technologies achieved in a tutoring system is presented. This approach incorporates a recommender system based on collaborative tagging techniques that adapts to the interests and level of students' knowledge. These innovations are important contributions of this monograph. Theoretical models and techniques are illustrated on a real personalised tutoring system for teaching Java programming language. The monograph is directed to, students and researchers interested in the e-learning and personalization techniques.

TL;DR: A number of motivating points on knowledge discovery in multiple databases are given and some domains that generated numerous problems on multiple related databases are highlighted.
Abstract: Abstract Knowledge discovery in multiple databases offers many opportunities and challenges. We have given a number of motivating points on knowledge discovery in multiple databases. In view of further studies on this aspect, we highlight some domains that generated numerous problems on multiple related databases. Activities related to data preprocessing in a multi-database mining environment are also discussed. Important techniques of mining multiple databases are outlined. Many interesting patterns that originated out of multi-database environments are highlighted. We shall witness more research outcomes and investigations as the number of multi-database domains is on the rise.

TL;DR: Fuzzy logic has provided a basis for representing uncertain and imprecise knowledge and formed the basis for human reasoning representation in medical and biomedical engineering applications as discussed by the authors, and has been successfully used in a number of applications including medicine and bio-medical engineering.
Abstract: This chapter reviews the applications of fuzzy and neuro-fuzzy systems technology in medicine and biology from a historical perspective. In addition to the presentation of the first bibliography of the early years, an analysis of past evolution and the current development of the field and its perspectives is presented. Fuzzy logic has provided a basis for representing uncertain and imprecise knowledge and formed a basis for human reasoning representation in medical and biomedical engineering applications. The tremendous advances in the theory of artificial neural networks and fuzzy logic have resulted in the flourishing applications of these techniques in medicine and biomedical engineering. Indeed, fuzzy logic techniques have been successfully used in a number of applications including medicine and bio-medical engineering. The domain of neural networks is as much a section of the fields of theoretical biology, neurology, and behavioural science, as it is a domain of automata theory and of engineering in general.

TL;DR: The 6th International Workshop on Soft Computing Applications (SOFA 2014) as discussed by the authors was organized by the University of Belgrade, Serbia in conjunction with Romanian Society of Control Engineering and Technical Informatics (SRAIT) - Arad Section, The General Association of Engineers in Romania - Aradi Section, Institute of Computer Science, Iasi Branch of the Romanian Academy and IEEE Romanian Section.
Abstract: These volumes constitute the Proceedings of the 6th International Workshop on Soft Computing Applications, or SOFA 2014, held on 24-26 July 2014 in Timisoara, Romania. This edition was organized by the University of Belgrade, Serbia in conjunction with Romanian Society of Control Engineering and Technical Informatics (SRAIT) - Arad Section, The General Association of Engineers in Romania - Arad Section, Institute of Computer Science, Iasi Branch of the Romanian Academy and IEEE Romanian Section. The Soft Computing concept was introduced by Lotfi Zadeh in 1991 and serves to highlight the emergence of computing methodologies in which the accent is on exploiting the tolerance for imprecision and uncertainty to achieve tractability, robustness and low solution cost. Soft computing facilitates the use of fuzzy logic, neurocomputing, evolutionary computing and probabilistic computing in combination, leading to the concept of hybrid intelligent systems. The combination of such intelligent systems tools and a large number of applications introduce a need for a synergy of scientific and technological disciplines in order to show the great potential of Soft Computing in all domains. The conference papers included in these proceedings, published post conference, were grouped into the following area of research: Image, Text and Signal ProcessingIntelligent TransportationModeling and ApplicationsBiomedical ApplicationsNeural Network and ApplicationsKnowledge-Based Technologies for Web Applications, Cloud Computing, Security, Algorithmsand Computer NetworksKnowledge-Based TechnologiesSoft Computing Techniques for Time Series AnalysisSoft Computing and Fuzzy Logic in BiometricsFuzzy Applications Theory and Fuzzy ControlBussiness Process ManagementMethods and Applications in Electrical EngineeringThe volumes provide useful information to professors, researchers and graduated students in area of soft computing techniques and applications, as they report new research work on challenging issues.
