Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Vitamin D Supplementation on Blood Pressure: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Incorporating Individual Patient Data
Louise A. Beveridge,Allan D. Struthers,Faisel Khan,Rolf Jorde,Robert Scragg,Helen M. Macdonald,Jessica A. Alvarez,Rebecca S. Boxer,Andrea Dalbeni,Adam D. Gepner,Nicole M. Isbel,Thomas Larsen,Jitender Nagpal,William Petchey,Hans Stricker,Franziska Strobel,Vin Tangpricha,Laura Toxqui,M. Pilar Vaquero,Louise Wamberg,Armin Zittermann,Miles D. Witham +21 more
TL;DR: Vitamin D supplementation is ineffective as an agent for lowering BP and thus should not be used as an antihypertensive agent.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chronic iron deficiency as an emerging risk factor for osteoporosis: a hypothesis.
Laura Toxqui,M. Pilar Vaquero +1 more
TL;DR: It is hypothesized that chronic iron deficiency induces bone resorption and risk of osteoporosis, thus complete recovery from anemia and its prevention should be promoted in order to improve quality of life including bone health.
Journal ArticleDOI
Efficacy of a microencapsulated iron pyrophosphate-fortified fruit juice: a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in Spanish iron-deficient women
Ruth Blanco-Rojo,Ana M. Pérez-Granados,Laura Toxqui,Carmen González-Vizcayno,Marco A. Delgado,M. Pilar Vaquero +5 more
TL;DR: Iron pyrophosphate-fortified fruit juice improves Fe status and may be used to prevent Fe-deficiency anaemia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relationship between vitamin D deficiency, bone remodelling and iron status in iron-deficient young women consuming an iron-fortified food
Ruth Blanco-Rojo,Ana M. Pérez-Granados,Laura Toxqui,Pilar Zazo,Concepción de la Piedra,M. Pilar Vaquero +5 more
TL;DR: The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency is very high in iron-deficient women, and the recovery of iron status by consuming an iron-fortified food does not affect 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels; however, the increase in iron supply to tissues is lower if the women also presentitamin D deficiency.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of an Iron or Iron and Vitamin D–Fortified Flavored Skim Milk on Iron Metabolism: A Randomized Controlled Double-Blind Trial in Iron-Deficient Women
Laura Toxqui,Ana M. Pérez-Granados,Ruth Blanco-Rojo,Ione Wright,Carmen González-Vizcayno,M. Pilar Vaquero +5 more
TL;DR: Iron-fortified flavored skim milk does not improve iron status in iron-deficient menstruating women, however, vitamin D fortification slightly enhances erythropoiesis and iron status.
