Automated visual inspection in the semiconductor industry: A survey

A critical task of vision-based manufacturing applications is to generate a virtual representation of a physical object from a dataset of point clouds. Its success relies on reliable algorithms and tools. Many effective technologies have been developed to solve various problems involved in data acquisition and processing. Some articles are available on evaluating and reviewing these technologies and underlying methodologies. However, for most practitioners who lack a strong background on mathematics and computer science, it is hard to understand theoretical fundamentals of the methodologies. In this paper, we intend to survey and evaluate recent advances in data acquisition and progressing, and provide an overview from a manufacturing perspective. Some potential manufacturing applications have been introduced, the technical gaps between the practical requirements and existing technologies discussed, and research opportunities identified.

A survey on industrial vision systems, applications and tools

Micro conveyance devices are important elements in high precision positioning systems, which play vital roles in many scientific and industrial fields and are widely needed in many applications. This work presents the modeling and experimental validation of a pre-designed and fabricated micro conveyance device. This micro conveyance device consists of eight elementary electromagnetic digital actuators and can realize a conveyance application based on a stick-slip driving principle. A dynamic model based on the prototype device was established for stick-slip displacement simulation. Four sub-models of the dynamic model regarding the calculation of actuation force and friction force within the device were built and integrated. Experiments focusing on the conveyance application were carried out to test the performance of the prototype device. It has been observed that the simulated results obtained using the dynamic model were in good agreement with the experiment results. The proposed device suggests an alternative to the micro conveyance system.

Experimental Characterization of a Stick-Slip Driving Micro Conveyance Device Consisting of Digital Actuators

Hardware techniques for the real-time implementation of image processing algorithms.

In this paper, a miniature tubular linear actuator capable of moving and reaching discrete positions inside a tube is presented. Its small size and ability to realize small strokes makes it suitable for biomedical applications. We then present the electromagnetic modeling of the actuator followed by an experimental validation. Results show that the actuator can reach discrete positions inside the tube with an average value of 3.5 mm and a standard deviation of 0.1 mm for a supplied current of 0.5 A.
