TL;DR: In this article, the effect of male circumcision on HIV incidence in men was investigated on a randomized trial in rural Rakai district, Uganda, where 4996 uncircumcised, HIV-negative men aged 15-49 years who agreed to HIV testing and counselling were enrolled in this randomised trial.

TL;DR: In the Rakai population, a substantial proportion of HIV-1 acquisition appears to occur independently of treatable STD cofactors, and in pregnant women, the follow-up prevalences of trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, gonorrhoea, and chlamydia infection were significantly lower in the intervention group than in the control group.
Book
Cluster randomised trials
TL;DR: Although the book mainly focuses on medical and public health applications, it shows that the rigorous evidence of intervention effects provided by CRTs has the potential to inform public policy in a wide range of other areas.
Journal ArticleDOI
Early exclusive breastfeeding reduces the risk of postnatal HIV-1 transmission and increases HIV-free survival
Peter J. Iliff,Ellen G. Piwoz,Naume V. Tavengwa,Clare D. Zunguza,Edmore Marinda,Kusum Nathoo,Lawrence H. Moulton,Brian J. Ward,Jean H. Humphrey +8 more
TL;DR: EBF may substantially reduce breastfeeding-associated HIV transmission, and early mixed breastfeeding was associated with a greater PNT risk at 6, 12, and 18 months, compared with EBF.
