TL;DR: In this paper, a comparative study of the vocal expression of emotions in Chinese versus Italian cultures was conducted, where participants were asked to read short stories inducing different emotions (joy, sadness, anger, fear, contempt, pride, guilt, and shame) within a scenario approach.
Abstract: This article outlines an exploratory comparative study of the vocal expression of emotions in Chinese versus Italian cultures. Given a strong relationship between voice and emotion, it is of special interest to analyze whether and how this connection may covariate with cultural influences in shaping emotions. Forty-eight undergraduates (29 Chinese and 19 Italian) are asked to read aloud short stories inducing different emotions (joy, sadness, anger, fear, contempt, pride, guilt, and shame) within a scenario approach. Subsequently, acoustic (sonographic) analysis is carried out on the recorded readings. On the one hand, the results confirm that different emotions may be expressed via variations in the modulation of vocal cues, in both cultures; on the other hand, differences in the specific patterns of vocal cues in expressing emotions are identified between Chinese and Italian participants. Theoretical implications of these findings are discussed.

TL;DR: Li et al. as discussed by the authors used a semi-structured interview to identify internalization of socially oriented value and reciprocity norm as two possible predictors of normative commitment, and examined the predictive relationship of these predictors with employee job satisfaction, turnover intention, in-role performance, and organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB).
Abstract: The current research concerns the predictors and organizational outcomes of normative commitment in Chinese companies. In Study 1, using a semi-structured interview, we identified internalization of socially oriented value and reciprocity norm as two possible predictors of normative commitment. Survey results confirm the factorial independence of these two predictors. Study 2 examined the predictive relationship of these predictors with employee job satisfaction, turnover intention, in-role performance, and organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB). The results showed that value internalization predicts higher job satisfaction and weaker turnover intentions via normative commitment, whereas reciprocity predicts higher job satisfaction, weaker turnover intention, and more frequent display of OCB via normative commitment. These findings are discussed in terms of their implications for future research and management practices.

TL;DR: Results showed that participants with stronger external control were more likely to purchase a lower priced home, have a lower ratio of mortgage loan amount to the total home value, and have a shorter term of mortgage loans.
Abstract: The present study investigated the impact of locus of control on home mortgage loan behaviours. The results showed that participants with stronger external control were more likely to purchase a lower priced home, have a lower ratio of mortgage loan amount to the total home value, and have a shorter term of mortgage loan. Moreover, among participants who have owned a home, those not using mortgage loans showed more external control than those using mortgage loans; among participants who have not owned a home but want to buy a home, those not planning to use mortgage loans showed more external control than those planning to use mortgage loans. TL;DR: In this article, the synthesis and superconductivity of (La1-xCex)(O0.9F0.1)FeAs and (La 1-xPbx)OFeAs, which were prepared via partially substituting the trivalent La with either Ce in LaO 0.9 F 0.1FeAs or Pb in La O
Abstract: Here we report the synthesis and superconductivity of (La1-xCex)(O0.9F0.1)FeAs and (La1-xPbx)OFeAs, which were prepared via partially substituting the trivalent La with either Ce in LaO0.9F0.1FeAs or Pb in LaOFeAs, respectively. Influence of the doping level x on the superconducting transition temperatures (Tc) is investigated in correlation with the dopant fraction values in these two sets of superconductors. The accurate existence of the doped Ce or Pb cations inside the typical samples is confirmed by means of electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) measurements. Structural analysis reveals that the increase of Ce content in the samples leads to a systematic shrinkage of the crystal lattice parameters. The observation of superconductivity in (La1- xPbx)OFeAs without F doping indicates a new method for the introduction of charge carriers in this system.

TL;DR: In this paper, an emulsifier free polymer latex (FL) and a conventional latex (CL) having the same chemical components were successfully synthesised with styrene (St) and butyl acrylate (BA) in the presence or absence of emulsifiers.
Abstract: An emulsifier free latex (FL) and a conventional latex (CL) having the same chemical components were successfully synthesised with styrene (St) and butyl acrylate (BA) in the presence or absence of emulsifier. Properties of the polymer latex modified rapid hardening sulphoaluminate cement mortars, such as fluidity, air content, compressive strength, flexural strength and water absorption, were assessed and discussed. Test results show that FL has a superior effect on the properties of the polymer latex modified mortars compared with CL except at a polymer/cement ratio of 15%.

TL;DR: Net photosynthetic rate of ear and flag leaf during grain filling stage and grain yield of plants with non-darkened or darkened flag leaf or darkened ear were examined in two different CO2 concentrations.
Abstract: Net photosynthetic rate (P N) of ear and flag leaf during grain filling stage and grain yield of plants with non-darkened or darkened flag leaf or darkened ear were examined in two different CO2 concentrations: ambient (AC) and AC+200 µmol mol−1 (EC) Ear showed much higher enhancement (56 %) of P N than flag leaf (23 %) under EC Moreover, CO2 enrichment shortened the photosynthetic duration of flag leaf relative to ear In this way the ratio of ear to flag leaf contribution to grain yield increased from 118 (AC) to 139 (EC)

TL;DR: Highly enantioselective Michael addition of cyclohexanone to aryl nitroolefins in the presence of an ionic liquid anchored pyrrolidine and TFA generated the corresponding adducts in high yields and with excellent diastereoselectivities.
Abstract: Highly enantioselective Michael addition of cyclohexanone to aryl nitroolefins in the presence of an ionic liquid anchored pyrrolidine (10 mol%) and TFA (5 mol%) generated the corresponding adducts in high yields (up to 95%) with excellent diastereoselectivities (up to >99:1 dr) and enantioselectivities (up to >99% ee). Furthermore, the catalyst could be recycled and reused at least eight times without loss of its catalytic activity.

TL;DR: In this paper, the implicit association test was applied to confirm the connection between loss aversion and gain preference, and the bias resulting from loss aversion was confirmed to be the underlying mechanism of the endowment effect.
Abstract: The endowment effect is the tendency for a person to demand more in return for selling an object than he or she would be willing to pay for the same product. Thaler suggested that the reason of endowment effect lies in that selling creates a loss while buying generates a gain. Although prior research has demonstrated the existence of loss aversion, few researchers have focused on the connection between “selling vs. buying” and “losing vs. gaining”, and a recent research with a self-report method failed to find solid evidence for such a connection. The present research applied the implicit association test, a latency method, to confirm this connection. The results demonstrated that selling was more closely connected to losing while buying was more closely connected to gaining. Thus the bias resulting from loss aversion and gain preference was confirmed to be the underlying mechanism of the endowment effect. The previous failure to find such an association may be due to the insensitivity of the self-report method. Here the implication of the findings and method for experimental economic psychology is discussed.
