TL;DR: The authors examined how attachment affected the peer influence on adolescent consumer behavior and found that attachment toward family and toward peers emerged together, while attachment avoidance decreased the tendency to shop often with friends and the motivation to comply in a purchase.
Abstract: This research examined how attachment affected the peer influence on adolescent consumer behavior. Results showed that attachment toward family and toward peers emerged together. Adolescent attachment anxiety strengthened the peer influence in consumption while attachment avoidance weakened the peer influence. Anxiety was positively related to adolescents’ perception of friends’ greater knowledge, spending when shopping with friends, and motivation to comply with friends’ suggestions on purchases directly and indirectly through consumer susceptibility to informational and normative influence. In contrast, attachment avoidance decreased the tendency to shop often with friends and the motivation to comply in a purchase. This study revealed that the influence of individual attachment orientations on interpersonal relationships can be extended to the field of consumption.

TL;DR: In this paper, an intriguing synergistic oxidation-driven liquid metal fractal phenomenon was discovered and the general mechanisms were interpreted, which provides a new strategy for manipulating liquid metal, and the best concentration range in which dendritic fractals can occur in order to guide practice.
Abstract: Ga-based liquid metal has drawn attention in the field of interface science due to its large deformability. However, the spreading and shaping of liquid metal still remain a huge challenge to be solved owing to its large surface tension. Here, an intriguing synergistic oxidation-driven liquid metal fractal phenomenon was discovered and the general mechanisms were interpreted, which provides a new strategy for manipulating liquid metal. Experimental results demonstrate that the liquid metal placed on the graphite plate exhibited fractal characteristics with the addition of hydrogen peroxide. Here, it is of significance that hydrogen peroxide and graphite plates synergistically oxidize liquid metal. In addition, we predicted that liquid metal fractals can also be achieved on other eligible substrates based on the proposed general mechanism, which was confirmed by relevant experiments. Furthermore, the fractal dimensions of liquid metal fractal pattern were obtained and evaluated, distinguishing the synergistic oxidation-driven liquid metal fractals from the voltage-driven liquid metal fractals. Besides, we initially gave the best concentration range in which dendritic fractals can occur in order to guide practice. The ability to achieve liquid metal fractals promises rich opportunities in freely driving the liquid metal for soft machines and manufacturing the shape-reconfigurable electronic circuits.

TL;DR: In this paper, the plasmonic resonant phenomenon in the terahertz wave band for GaN high electron mobility transistors was investigated by using a finite difference time domain method.
Abstract: The plasmonic resonant phenomenon in the terahertz wave band for GaN high electron mobility transistors is investigated by using a finite difference time domain method. Strong resonant absorptions can be obtained where a large area slit grating-gate serves both as electrodes and coupler. Such kinds of plasmonic resonant detection devices are compatible to the well-developed GaN process, and possibly overcome the difficulty in fabricating ultra-short-gate devices for terahertz applications.

TL;DR: In this article, a two-dimensional version of the Pennsylvania State University mesoscale model has been applied to Winter Monsoon Experiment data in order to simulate the diurnally occurring convection observed over the South China Sea.
Abstract: Abstract A two-dimensional version of the Pennsylvania State University mesoscale model has been applied to Winter Monsoon Experiment data in order to simulate the diurnally occurring convection observed over the South China Sea. The domain includes a representation of part of Borneo as well as the sea so that the model can simulate the initiation of convection. Also included in the model are parameterizations of mesoscale ice phase and moisture processes and longwave and shortwave radiation with a diurnal cycle. This allows use of the model to test the relative importance of various heating mechanisms to the stratiform cloud deck, which typically occupies several hundred kilometers of the domain. Frank and Cohen's cumulus parameterization scheme is employed to represent vital unresolved vertical transports in the convective area. The major conclusions are: Ice phase processes are important in determining the level of maximum large-scale heating and vertical motion because there is a strong anvil componen...

TL;DR: The progress in the research and development of CQDs is reviewed with an emphasis on their synthesis, functionalization and technical applications along with some discussion on challenges and perspectives in this exciting and promising field.
Abstract: Fluorescent carbon nanoparticles or carbon quantum dots (CQDs) are a new class of carbon nanomaterials that have emerged recently and have garnered much interest as potential competitors to conventional semiconductor quantum dots. In addition to their comparable optical properties, CQDs have the desired advantages of low toxicity, environmental friendliness low cost and simple synthetic routes. Moreover, surface passivation and functionalization of CQDs allow for the control of their physicochemical properties. Since their discovery, CQDs have found many applications in the fields of chemical sensing, biosensing, bioimaging, nanomedicine, photocatalysis and electrocatalysis. This article reviews the progress in the research and development of CQDs with an emphasis on their synthesis, functionalization and technical applications along with some discussion on challenges and perspectives in this exciting and promising field.
