TL;DR: This work combines this large cross-cultural sample with agent-based models to compare eight hypothesized models of human mating markets and finds that this cross-culturally universal pattern of mate choice is most consistent with a Euclidean model of mate preference integration.
Journal ArticleDOI
Children's risky play from an evolutionary perspective: The anti-phobic effects of thrilling experiences
TL;DR: It is concluded that risky play may have evolved due to this anti-phobic effect in normal child development, and it is suggested that it may observe an increased neuroticism or psychopathology in society if children are hindered from partaking in age adequate risky play.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: Using a new 45-country sample (N = 14,399), this work attempted to replicate classic studies and test both the evolutionary and biosocial role perspectives, finding neither pathogen prevalence nor gender equality robustly predicted sex differences or preferences across countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Estrogenic and progestogenic effects of hormonal contraceptives in relation to sexual behavior: insights into extended sexuality
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined associations between women's loyalty and faithfulness to their relationships and frequency of sexual intercourse in women using hormonal contraception and found that women's non-conceptive (extended) sexuality might function in the context of pair-bonding.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mate preference priorities in the East and West: A cross-cultural test of the mate preference priority model.
Andrew G. Thomas,Peter K. Jonason,Jesse D. Blackburn,Leif Edward Ottesen Kennair,Rob Lowe,John M. Malouff,Steve Stewart-Williams,Danielle Sulikowski,Norman P. Li +8 more
TL;DR: The tendency to prioritize reproductively fundamental traits is present in both Eastern and Western cultures, and the psychological mechanisms responsible for this process produce similar prioritization patterns despite cross-cultural variation.
