Impurity adsorption and habit changes in aqueous solution grown KCl crystals
TL;DR: In this paper, it was established through in-situ and ex situ observations of surface microtopographs of growing and etched {100} and {111} faces of KCl crystals that the well-known habit change from cubic to octahedral due to the presence of Pb ions in aqueous solution takes place through preferential precipitation of pbCl 2 crystallites along 〈110〉 steps of growth layers on {100, the appearance of {111] occurs by the pile up of the steps, subsequent spiral growth occurs on { 111} faces.
