TL;DR: A new necessary and sufficient condition is proposed in terms of strict linear matrix inequality (LMI), which guarantees the stochastic admissibility of the unforced Markovian jump singular system.
Abstract: This paper is concerned with the state estimation and sliding-mode control problems for continuous-time Markovian jump singular systems with unmeasured states. Firstly, a new necessary and sufficient condition is proposed in terms of strict linear matrix inequality (LMI), which guarantees the stochastic admissibility of the unforced Markovian jump singular system. Then, the sliding-mode control problem is considered by designing an integral sliding surface function. An observer is designed to estimate the system states, and a sliding-mode control scheme is synthesized for the reaching motion based on the state estimates. It is shown that the sliding mode in the estimation space can be attained in a finite time. Some conditions for the stochastic admissibility of the overall closed-loop system are derived. Finally, a numerical example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed theory.

TL;DR: The fault detection filtering problem is solved for nonlinear switched stochastic system in the T-S fuzzy framework and the fuzzy-parameter-dependent fault detection filters are designed that guarantee the resulted error system to be mean-square exponential stable with a weighted H∞ error performance.
Abstract: In this note, the fault detection filtering problem is solved for nonlinear switched stochastic system in the T-S fuzzy framework. Our attention is concentrated on the construction of a robust fault detection technique to the nonlinear switched system with Brownian motion. Based on observer-based fault detection fuzzy filter as a residual generator, the proposed fault detection is formulated as a fuzzy filtering problem. By the utilization of the average dwell time technique and the piecewise Lyapunov function technique, the fuzzy-parameter-dependent fault detection filters are designed that guarantee the resulted error system to be mean-square exponential stable with a weighted ${\mathcal H}_{\infty}$ error performance. Then, the corresponding solvability condition for the fault detection fuzzy filter is also established by the linearization procedure technique. Finally, simulation has been presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed fault detection technique.

TL;DR: There is, I think, something ethereal about i —the square root of minus one, which seems an odd beast at that time—an intruder hovering on the edge of reality.
Abstract: There is, I think, something ethereal about i —the square root of minus one. I remember first hearing about it at school. It seemed an odd beast at that time—an intruder hovering on the edge of reality. Usually familiarity dulls this sense of the bizarre, but in the case of i it was the reverse: over the years the sense of its surreal nature intensified. It seemed that it was impossible to write mathematics that described the real world in …

TL;DR: The three-part survey paper aims to give a comprehensive review of real-time fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control, with particular attention on the results reported in the last decade.
Abstract: With the continuous increase in complexity and expense of industrial systems, there is less tolerance for performance degradation, productivity decrease, and safety hazards, which greatly necessitates to detect and identify any kinds of potential abnormalities and faults as early as possible and implement real-time fault-tolerant operation for minimizing performance degradation and avoiding dangerous situations. During the last four decades, fruitful results have been reported about fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control methods and their applications in a variety of engineering systems. The three-part survey paper aims to give a comprehensive review of real-time fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control, with particular attention on the results reported in the last decade. In this paper, fault diagnosis approaches and their applications are comprehensively reviewed from model- and signal-based perspectives, respectively.

TL;DR: In this paper, a number of quantized feedback design problems for linear systems were studied and the authors showed that the classical sector bound approach is non-conservative for studying these design problems.
Abstract: This paper studies a number of quantized feedback design problems for linear systems. We consider the case where quantizers are static (memoryless). The common aim of these design problems is to stabilize the given system or to achieve certain performance with the coarsest quantization density. Our main discovery is that the classical sector bound approach is nonconservative for studying these design problems. Consequently, we are able to convert many quantized feedback design problems to well-known robust control problems with sector bound uncertainties. In particular, we derive the coarsest quantization densities for stabilization for multiple-input-multiple-output systems in both state feedback and output feedback cases; and we also derive conditions for quantized feedback control for quadratic cost and H/sub /spl infin// performances.

TL;DR: In this paper, a multilevel commutation cell is introduced for high-voltage power conversion, which can be applied to either choppers or voltage-source inverters and generalized to any number of switches.
Abstract: The authors discuss high-voltage power conversion. Conventional series connection and three-level voltage source inverter techniques are reviewed and compared. A novel versatile multilevel commutation cell is introduced: it is shown that this topology is safer and more simple to control, and delivers purer output waveforms. The authors show how this technique can be applied to either choppers or voltage-source inverters and generalized to any number of switches.<>
