A MHz-repetition-rate hard X-ray free-electron laser driven by a superconducting linear accelerator

W. Decking, +481 more
- 18 May 2020 -
TL;DR: The European XFEL as discussed by the authors is a hard X-ray free-electron laser (FEL) based on a highelectron-energy superconducting linear accelerator, which allows for the acceleration of many electron bunches within one radio-frequency pulse of the accelerating voltage and, in turn, for the generation of a large number of hard Xray pulses.
Journal ArticleDOI

Coherence properties of the European XFEL

TL;DR: In this paper, the evolution of the temporal and transverse correlation functions along the undulator length is described, and the corresponding evolution of coherence time and degree of transverse coherence as typical figures of merit.
Journal ArticleDOI

Exploring the wavefront of hard X-ray free-electron laser radiation

TL;DR: The wavefront properties of hard X-ray free-electron laser radiation are explored by means of a grating interferometer, from which shot-to-shot wavefront information is obtained with an excellent angular sensitivity on the order of ten nanoradian.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Requirements on hard x-ray grazing incidence optics for European XFEL: analysis and simulation of wavefront transformations

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of mirror imperfections was properly handled in the frame of the wave optics approach, and it was shown that reflection on such a mirror surface still imposes substantial wave field distortions at distances of several hundred meters from the mirror relevant for European XFEL beamlines.
