Journal ArticleDOI
VMP1 Establishes ER-Microdomains that Regulate Membrane Contact Sites and Autophagy.
TL;DR: VMP1, a multispanning ER-resident protein involved in autophagy, is enriched in ER micro-domains that are in close proximity to diverse organelles in HeLa and Cos-7 cells, suggesting a role in the regulation of MCS at the site of autophagosome formation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dissecting the function of Atg1 complex in Dictyostelium autophagy reveals a connection with the pentose phosphate pathway enzyme transketolase
Ana Mesquita,Luis-Carlos Tábara,Oscar H. Martínez-Costa,Natalia Santos-Rodrigo,Olivier Vincent,Ricardo Escalante +5 more
TL;DR: Changes in the activity of endogenous TKT activity in strains lacking or overexpressing Atg1 are found, suggesting the presence of an unsuspected regulatory pathway between autophagy and the pentose phosphate pathway in Dictyostelium that seems to be conserved in mammalian cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vacuole membrane protein 1 marks endoplasmic reticulum subdomains enriched in phospholipid synthesizing enzymes and is required for phosphoinositide distribution.
Luis-Carlos Tábara,Juan-Jesus Vicente,Joanna M. Biazik,Eeva-Liisa Eskelinen,Olivier Vincent,Ricardo Escalante +5 more
TL;DR: The role of VMP1 in lipid trafficking is expanded to include endoplasmic reticulum domains enriched in lipid synthesizing enzymes, which might be necessary for efficient distribution of PtdIns4P and perhaps other lipid species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence for an evolutionary relationship between Vmp1 and bacterial DedA proteins.
TL;DR: This work shows that VMP1 from different species contain two short motifs conserved in the bacterial DedA proteins and the yeast protein Tvp38, and highlights the importance of the conserved glycine residue in the PF09335 domain.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Dictyostelium model for BPAN disease reveals a functional relationship between the WDR45/WIPI4 homolog Wdr45l and Vmp1 in the regulation of autophagy-associated PtdIns3P and ER stress.
Alba Tornero-Écija,Luis-Carlos Tábara,Miranda Bueno-Arribas,Laura Antón-Esteban,Cristina Navarro-Gómez,Irene Sánchez,Olivier Vincent,Ricardo Escalante +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors have generated mutants for the two PROPPIN proteins present in the model system Dictyostelium discoideum (Atg18 and Wdr45l) and characterized their function.
