Journal ArticleDOI
SARS-CoV-2 endothelial infection causes COVID-19 chilblains: histopathological, immunohistochemical and ultrastructural study of seven paediatric cases
Isabel Colmenero,Carlos Santonja,M Alonso-Riaño,Lucero Noguera-Morel,Angela Hernández-Martín,David Andina,Thomas Wiesner,José Luis Rodríguez-Peralto,Luis Requena,Antonio Torrelo +9 more
TL;DR: Chilblains (‘COVID toes’) are being seen with increasing frequency in children and young adults during the COVID‐19 pandemic, and causality of SARS‐CoV‐2 has not yet been established.
Journal ArticleDOI
RNA SARS-CoV-2 Persistence in the Lung of Severe COVID-19 Patients: A Case Series of Autopsies
Tamara Caniego-Casas,Laura B. Martínez-García,M Alonso-Riaño,David Pizarro,I. Carretero‐Barrio,Nilda Martínez-de-Castro,Ignacio Ruz-Caracuel,Raúl de Pablo,Ana Saiz,Rosa Nieto Royo,Ana Cláudia Santiago,Marta Rosas,José Luis Rodríguez-Peralto,Belén Pérez-Mies,J. Galán,José Palacios +15 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that in severe COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2 could persist for longer periods than expected, especially in immunocompromised populations, contributing to the persistence of chronic lung lesions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chilblains and COVID-19: why SARS-CoV-2 endothelial infection is questioned. Reply from the authors.
Isabel Colmenero,Carlos Santonja,M Alonso-Riaño,David Andina,José Luis Rodríguez-Peralto,Luis Requena,Antonio Torrelo +6 more
TL;DR: The negative RT‐PCR in nasopharyngeal swabs in patients with COVID‐19 chilblains has been extensively acknowledged in the literature, however a significant proportion of patients had mild systemic symptoms or contact with confirmed or suspected cases 2.
Journal ArticleDOI
A case of acute interstitial nephritis following the Pfizer–BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine
José Carlos De La Flor Merino,Tania Linares Gravalos,M Alonso-Riaño,Pilar Segura Cebollada,C. Albarracin Serra,Elisa Ruiz Cicero,Gioconda Gallegos Bayas,Miguel Rodeles del Pozoa +7 more
Journal ArticleDOI
SARS-CoV-2 has not been detected directly by electron microscopy in the endothelium of chilblain lesions: reply from the authors.
Isabel Colmenero,Carlos Santonja,M Alonso-Riaño,David Andina,J.L. Rodríguez Peralto,Luis Requena,Antonio Torrelo +6 more
TL;DR: The size and shape of the particle shown in this paper fit with other descriptions of SARS‐CoV‐2, but there may be a bias in interpretation.
