Journal ArticleDOI
Freezability prediction of boar ejaculates assessed by functional sperm parameters and sperm proteins.
TL;DR: Assessing both the conventional sperm quality parameters and the immunolabeling of three proteins involved in the physiology of the sperm cell suggest that analyzing these sperm kinematic parameters could be a useful tool for predicting the potential freezability of an ejaculate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Semen quality of postpubertal boars during increasing and decreasing natural photoperiods
Sílvia Sancho,Elisabeth Pinart,M.D. Briz,N. Garcia-Gil,E. Badia,Judit Bassols,Elisabet Kádár,A. Pruneda,Eva Bussalleu,Marc Yeste,M G Coll,S. Bonet +11 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that the sperm quality of the selected boars decreased during decreasing photoperiods, in comparison with increasing photoperperiods, mainly due to impaired testicular function.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative study of boar sperm coming from the caput, corpus, and cauda regions of the epididymis.
TL;DR: The presence in the ejaculate of one or more gamete forms belonging to the epididymal caput, corpus, or cauda will allow workers to better establish the intensity of stress produced by a high frequency of semen collection.
Journal ArticleDOI
The HSP90AA1 sperm content and the prediction of the boar ejaculate freezability.
I Casas,Sílvia Sancho,Joan Ballester,M.D. Briz,Elisabeth Pinart,Eva Bussalleu,Marc Yeste,A Fabrega,Joan E. Rodríguez-Gil,S. Bonet +9 more
TL;DR: This last finding claims the introduction of tests based on molecular markers in spermatozoa to accurately predict the freezability of ejaculates in order to promote the use of frozen semen on artificial insemination programmes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of cryopreservation on semen quality and the expression of sperm membrane hexose transporters in the spermatozoa of Iberian pigs
Sílvia Sancho,I Casas,H. Ekwall,Fernando Saravia,Heriberto Rodriguez-Martinez,Joan E. Rodríguez-Gil,E. Flores,Elisabeth Pinart,M.D. Briz,N. Garcia-Gil,Judit Bassols,A. Pruneda,Eva Bussalleu,Marc Yeste,S. Bonet +14 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that cryopreservation affects the status of sperm cells of Iberian boars by altering the distribution of some membrane receptors and decreasing the percentage values of parameters linked to sperm quality.
