TL;DR: Drug-related hospital admissions are a significant health problem and approximately half are potentially preventable, which suggests that the detection and analysis of preventable adverse events, followed by the implementation of prevention programs, will lead not only to an improvement in healthcare and patient safety, but also a reduction in overall healthcare expenditures.
