A novel miniaturized frequency selective surface with excellent center frequency stability

A single layer, single feed, multi frequency, compact rectangular printed antenna is proposed. Resonant frequency has been reduced drastically by cutting unequal rectangular slots at the edge of the patch along with two tiny circular slots created inside the patch to improve return loss. Antenna size has been reduced by 64% with an increased frequency ratio (the ratio of second or higher resonant frequency to the first resonant frequency).

A new compact printed antenna for mobile communication

In this article, a new design for single-layer rectangular microstrip patch antenna has been proposed.This design uses a ground plane with a single slot. It has been shown that by using this slotted ground plane, the resonant frequency has been lowered considerably, thus, reducing the size of the antenna. Using this design, the size of the antenna is reduced by about 90%. It has been also shown that the resonant frequency can be reduced further by increasing the length of the slot. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Miniaturization of rectangular microstrip patch antenna using optimized single-slotted ground plane

A fast and accurate design procedure of a computationally expensive microwave circuit has been presented step-by-step and experimentally validated on the basis of a compact rat-race coupler (RRC) comprising slow-wave resonant structures. The final compact RRC solution has been obtained by means of a sequential optimization scheme exploiting the implicit space mapping algorithm. A well-suited surrogate optimization starting point as well as a considerable limitation of the surrogate optimization variables contribute significantly to the numerical efficiency of the method proposed. The final design, offering 85% size reduction together with a satisfactory performance, has been obtained with only a handful of EM simulations. A robust design of a numerically demanding compact rat‐race coupler

This paper is aimed at proposing some single layer, single feed, multifrequency slotted microstrip patch antennas for wireless communication applications. Four different slotted patch antennas fabricated with FR-4 ( ) substrate are proposed and experimentally studied. Unequal narrow rectangular slots are introduced on the respective patches to reduce the size of the antennas. Multiple resonant frequencies are also obtained by cutting unequal slots. The measured result shows that the size of the proposed antennas have been reduced by 89, 90, 92, and 67%, respectively, when compared with their respective conventional rectangular microstrip antennas with same patch areas. The proposed antenna structures also provides increased frequency ratio (the ratio of second or higher resonant frequency to the first resonant frequency). All the antenna structures are simulated using method of moment based IE3D™ software. Good agreement is achieved between simulated and measured (by vector network analyzer) results.

Investigations on miniaturized multifrequency microstrip patch antennas for wireless communication applications

Single layer single feed dual and multifrequency patch antenna is introduced. Resonant frequency can be reduced and frequency ratio can be increased by cutting unequal rectangular slots at the edge. C band and X band operation can be successfully achieved with a size reduction of about 41%. Multifrequency operation can also be achieved by cutting two equal rectangular slots inside the patch. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
