This paper presents an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) surveillance system which is a smart system based on embedded technology and incorporates various sensors to continuously monitor its surroundings for suspicious activities like physical attack, fraud and theft that might jeopardize the ATM and people nearby. Also discussed is the security and safety measures that can be implemented to prevent such raids by proper surveillance. This paper analyses the different forms of physical attacks on ATM's and discusses the methods that are used to detect the foray, commence proactive measures and tip-off officials through GSM network. We also discuss about the implementation of the proposed system, the sensors and the other supporting hardware that are being used to deploy this system. The proposed system thus heightens the security of ATM's against imminent attacks effectively.

Smart ATM surveillance system

In the present scenario, majority of the population uses the ATM machine to withdraw cash. At the same time, there are many ATM robberies that have occurred in many areas, even if the CCTV cameras are placed in the ATM center. Hence the security system needs to be changed. In order to reduce these kinds of robberies, we present a security system for ATM theft by using a smart and effective technology. This system also analyses various physical attacks on ATM's. In our proposed system we use Face Recognizing Camera to capture the face of the person, who is entering. Tilt and vibration sensors are used to detect the irregular activities that are done on the ATM machine. The purpose of the Temperature sensor is to determine the degree of temperature present in the ATM booth. The main aim of our proposed system is to send an alert through social media's like Facebook, twitter, and Gmail using IOT and GSM network. Liquidator chloroform is used to spread the chloroform to make the thief unconscious. This system caters realistic monitoring and control

An IOT Based ATM Surveillance System

In contrast to the past, Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) are widely used due to their simplicity and extensive availability. Presently, ATM systems use no more than an access card which usually has a magnetic stripe (magstripe) and a fixed Personal Identification Number (PIN) for identity verification. Some other cases utilize a chip and a PIN which sometimes has a magstripe in case the chip fails as a backup for identification purposes. This method is not very secure and prone to increase in criminal activities. The need for a novel, simple as well as secure method of access is thus imperative. In the present work, a PIN is generated by the user and this PIN is made available to the ATM system by the means of a Subscriber Identity Module(SIM) in the user’s Mobile Phone. This information is communicated to a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) module embedded into the ATM’s functional framework. This method of security is more stable than the traditional methods presently in use. The method presented is dynamic due to the possibility of changing the User Defined PIN(UDPIN) in each and every transaction. Losing the access card no longer becomes a big problem to the user and the need for immediate deactivation is also eliminated. It can also be enhanced by including other security features without large number of modifications. A simple prototype employing this security function has been implemented and the results are verified. The proposed system has been tested extensively and proves to be a simpler and better security measure.

A Novel ATM Security System using a User Defined Personal Identification Number With the Aid of GSM Technology

ATM Skimming is a major concern that needs to be addressed with a specific solution. ATM Skimming is done in two steps. One is stealing the Personal Information that is stored on the Debit card / Credit card using Rain cover connected to the card reader slot (ATM’s real card slot). The second is installing a Fake keypad that can capture the pin code when the card holder enters pin details. Few researchers have proposed solutions to address the issue using Image Processing techniques. However, it does not provide a complete solution in a long term. Hence it is of paramount importance to provide ATM with high security features. In order to solve the issue of ATM Skimming, An Embedded System design is proposed. The research is carried out in two phases. One is detection phase and the second is Prevention Phase. In the detection phase, Hardware components such as Arduino Mega, Force Sensing Resistor (FSR), GPS, GSM and Buzzer are used. Arduino Mega acts as a Central Processor that processes the information received from Force sensing resistor (FSR) and send SMS Messages to ROP and Bank Officials using GSM and informing them about the ATM Location using GPS where the Fraud is taking place. Buzzer can be used at the ATM Locations to alert nearby people. In the prevention Phase, as a preventive measure a Onetime password (OTP) technique is used. If a fraudster somehow succeeds in Fixing fake key pad and Rain Cover at ATM’s real card slot, When he tries to insert debit card, An OTP will be generated and is sent to the Card Holder which in turn he can know someone is trying to make Transactions and quickly he can ask bank officials to Block his account and inform ROP about the same. Expected findings of the proposed work is to detect  Fake keypads and Fake card readers using FSR placed at the edges of Original Keypad and card reader slot. Sending messages to ROP, BANK OFFICIALS and CARD HOLDER using GSM. ATM locations are identified using GPS. Buzzers are used to alert nearby people.

Design and development for detection and prevention of ATM skimming frauds

The method may then transmit an alert via a network to an alert repository including data identifying the SST when the comparing identifies at least one of the computer platform layer system configuration values does not match a respective expected value.
