Journal ArticleDOI
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) deficiency in elderly patients
Emmanuel Andrès,Noureddine Henoun Loukili,Esther Noel,Georges Kaltenbach,Maher Ben Abdelgheni,A.E. Perrin,M. Noblet-Dick,Frédéric Maloisel,Jean-Louis Schlienger,Jean-Frédéric Blicklé +9 more
TL;DR: The epidemiology and causes of cobalamin deficiency in elderly people, with an emphasis on food-cobalamin malabsorption syndrome, are reviewed, and diagnostic and management strategies for cobalamina deficiency are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Efficacy of short-term oral cobalamin therapy for the treatment of cobalamin deficiencies related to food-cobalamin malabsorption: a study of 30 patients.
Emmanuel Andrès,Georges Kaltenbach,Esther Noel,M. Noblet-Dick,Anne-Elisabeth Perrin,Thomas Vogel,J.L. Schlienger,Marc Berthel,Jean-Frédéric Blicklé +8 more
TL;DR: Crystalline cyanocobalamin, 250-1000 microg/day, given orally for 1 month, may be an effective treatment for cobalamin deficiencies not related to pernicious anemia.
Journal Article
Hematological response to short-term oral cyanocobalamin therapy for the treatment of cobalamin deficiencies in elderly patients.
Emmanuel Andrès,Georges Kaltenbach,M. Noblet-Dick,Esther Noel,Stéphane Vinzio,Anne-Elisabeth Perrin,Marc Berthel,Jean-Frédéric Blicklé +7 more
TL;DR: The view that one month of oral crystalline cyanocobalamin is effective to correct serum vitamin B12 levels and to obtain hematological responses in elderly patients with cobalamin deficiency related to food-cobalamin malabsorption (FCM) is supported.
Journal Article
Early response to oral cobalamin therapy in older patients with vitamin B12 deficiency
Georges Kaltenbach,M. Noblet-Dick,Emmanuel Andrès,Geneviève Barnier-Figue,Ester Noel,Thomas Vogel,Anne-Elisabeth Perrin,Catherine Martin-Hunyadi,Marc Berthel,Francis Kuntzmann +9 more
TL;DR: The findings suggest that cyanocobalamin given orally during one week may be an effective treatment for cobalamin deficiency related to food-cobalamin malabsorption and nutritional deficiency and may avoid painful intra-muscular injections in older patients.
