Abstract: Busca recuperar a evolucao dos conceitos de letramento e alfabetizacao ao longo das duas ultimas decadas, identificando, nesse periodo, um movimento de progressiva invencao da palavra e do conceito de letramento e concomitante desinvencao da alfabetizacao, entendida como a perda de especificidade desse processo, o que vem tendo como consequencia uma nova modalidade de fracasso escolar: o precario nivel de dominio da lingua escrita em ciclos ou series em que esse dominio ja deveria ter sido alcancado. Discutem-se as causas dessa perda de especificidade do processo de alfabetizacao, e propoe-se uma distincao entre alfabetizacao e letramento que preserve a peculiaridade de cada um desses processos, ao mesmo tempo em que se afirma sua indissociabilidade e interdependencia. Caracteriza-se o momento atual como sendo de tentativas de reinvencao da alfabetizacao, considerada necessaria desde que entendida nao como a volta a paradigmas do passado, mas como recuperacao da especificidade da alfabetizacao em suas multiplas facetas, e sua integracao com o processo de letramento.

Abstract: In the context of two different cultures - print cul- ture and electronic culture, or cyberculture -, this article seeks a clearer comprehension of literacy opposing typographic and digi- tal technologies of reading and writing. Through the differences regarding the writing space and the mechanisms of producing, re- producing and diffusing ideas, it argues that different kinds of lit- eracy - that is, different social, cognitive and discursive effects - have resulted from such different modalities of written communi- cation. Since literacy is not a single, homogeneous phenomenon, it finally suggests this word should be used in its plural rather than singular form: literacies.

Abstract: Com base em estudo sobre o estado do conhecimento a respeito da alfabetizacao, no Brasil, sao identificadas as continuidades e mudancas na pesquisa em educacao no pais, da segunda metade do seculo XX ao inicio do seculo XXI. Indicando duas possiveis perspectivas de analise – externa, privilegiando as politicas de pesquisa e o papel dos cursos de Pos-Graduacao, e interna, privilegiando o proprio conteudo das pesquisas – o artigo detem-se na segunda perspectiva, caracterizando-a como analise dos paradigmas em que elas se enquadram, definidos pela natureza da relacao pesquisador-objeto da pesquisa – quadro epistemologico positivista ou interpretativo, e do foco posto sobre o objeto – foco na faceta individual, social ou cultural. Concluise, com relacao aos paradigmas, que as mudancas nao se dao por substituicao, pois ha coexistencia de paradigmas ao longo do tempo, ocorrendo, assim, continuidades, embora com predominância de determinado paradigma em cada momento historico. Com relacao ao foco, conclui-se que ha evidente mudanca ao longo das decadas, pois este vai se deslocando da faceta individual para a faceta social e desta para a faceta cultural.

Abstract: The knowledge of grapheme-phoneme correspondences provides a mnemonic system which contributes to the training of beginning readers, favoring the development of reading fluency and comprehension. However, many children have difficulty in the process of automatic mapping of the writing and pronunciation of words and may need much more training to achieve a normal level of reading acquisition. This research has examined the strategies for recognizing written words expressed by children facing difficulties in literacy process in a reading test controlled by linguistic criteria related to the properties of words, such as the internal structure of syllables and the values of context-dependent and independent graphemes in the composition of words. From the characterization of the strategies used by the children, I sought to determine to what extent such strategies prevent the identification of the pronunciation and meaning of written words. It was concluded that children difficulties are related to strategies for reading words which demonstrate a dissociation between the knowledge of letters and the development of phonological awareness. It was also found that the delay in the learning process of students may be related to poor knowledge of the letter-sound correspondence rules and to the difficulty of the decoding mechanism in the analysis of non-canonical syllable structures.

Abstract: Este artigo aborda o letramento digital no interior da discussao sobre a formacao de professores, reportando-se as experiencias construidas em um grupo de pesquisa orientado pela perspectiva psicologica historico-cultural. Apresentadas algumas definicoes de letramento digital, reflete-se sobre os desafios postos a escola pelo confronto com as novas praticas de leitura e escrita propiciadas pelos usos do computador e da internet. Em seguida, analisa-se como, em sua formacao inicial e continuada, os professores sao preparados para a insercao dessas tecnologias em suas praticas pedagogicas e para compreenderem o letramento digital de seus alunos. Ao final, situa-se o professor na era da internet, em seu lugar insubstituivel de mediador e problematizador do conhecimento, que adota uma posicao aberta e ao mesmo tempo critica diante do que essa tecnologia digital oferece.

Abstract: Letramento funcional em saude (LFS) e o grau pelo qual os individuos tem a capacidade para obter, processar e entender informacoes basicas e servicos necessarios para a tomada de decisoes adequadas em saude. O tema preocupa pesquisadores/profissionais da saude/formuladores de politicas publicas. Sua natureza interdisciplinar, relacional e interacional indica que o LFS sofre a influencia dos sistemas de saude/educacional, midia, familia, ambiente de trabalho/comunidade/decisao politica. Analisam-se conceitos de LFS versus interacao usuarios-profissionais-sistema de saude, norteando-se pelas questoes: Em que consiste o LFS? Em que medida interfere na comunicacao entre usuarios, profissionais e sistema de saude? Quais sao suas consequencias na saude publica? Medidas para elevacao do LFS devem melhorar as competencias individuais e servicos de saude humanizados, aperfeicoando suas comunicacoes, escritas/orais, satisfazendo as necessidades/habilidades dos usuarios.
