Selenium status is associated with colorectal cancer risk in the European prospective investigation of cancer and nutrition cohort
David J. Hughes,Veronika Fedirko,Mazda Jenab,Lutz Schomburg,Catherine Méplan,Heinz Freisling,Hendrik B. Bueno-de-Mesquita,Sandra Hybsier,Niels-Peter Becker,Magdalena Czuban,Anne Tjønneland,Malene Outzen,Marie-Christine Boutron-Ruault,Marie-Christine Boutron-Ruault,Antoine Racine,Antoine Racine,Nadia Bastide,Nadia Bastide,Tilman Kühn,Rudolf Kaaks,Dimitrios Trichopoulos,Antonia Trichopoulou,Pagona Lagiou,Pagona Lagiou,Salvatore Panico,Petra H.M. TL;DR: The findings indicate that Se status is suboptimal in many Europeans and suggest an inverse association between CRC risk and higher serum Se status, which is more evident in women.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pre-diagnostic copper and zinc biomarkers and colorectal cancer risk in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition cohort

TL;DR: Copper or copper levels in relation to zinc (copper to zinc ratio) become imbalanced in the process of CRC development, suggesting a possible role for higher copper and copper/zinc ratio levels in CRC development and progression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of selenium status from dried blood spots by total-reflection X-ray fluorescence analysis ☆
TL;DR: To test whether the Se status can also be reliably determined from DBS by total reflection X, an easy collection of samples, storage as well as transport at room temperature, together with well-characterized handling procedures is tested.
