TL;DR: The serotonergic system extends throughout the central nervous system (CNS) and the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, including mood, cognition, anxiety, learning, memory, reward processing, and sleep as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cross-talk between immune system and microbiota in COVID-19.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the role of probiotics in restoring the balance of the gut microbiota and modulation of cytokine storm, which can help manage the mortality and morbidity rates associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Involvement of orexin receptors within the hippocampal dentate gyrus in morphine-induced reinstatement in food-deprived rats.
Mahsa Pourhamzeh,Roghaye Mozafari,Shole Jamali,Fereshteh Motamedi,Reza Ahadi,Abbas Haghparast +5 more
TL;DR: A role for the orexin receptors, especially OX2R within the DG region in the stress-induced reinstatement of morphine-seeking behaviours in extinguished rats is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
3D modeling in cancer studies.
Oula El Atat,Zahra Farzaneh,Mahsa Pourhamzeh,Mahsa Pourhamzeh,Fatima Taki,Ralph J. Abi-Habib,Massoud Vosough,Mirvat El-Sibai +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discussed the importance of 3D cell culture in simulating the tumor microenvironment and focused on the effects of cancer cell-microenvironment interactions on cancer behavior, resistance, proliferation, and metastasis.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Interplay of Tau Protein and β-Amyloid: While Tauopathy Spreads More Profoundly Than Amyloidopathy, Both Processes Are Almost Equally Pathogenic
Mahsa Pourhamzeh,Mahsa Pourhamzeh,Mohammad Taghi Joghataei,Soraya Mehrabi,Reza Ahadi,Seyed Mohammad Massood Hojjati,Nasrin Fazli,Seyed Massood Nabavi,Hossein Pakdaman,Koorosh Shahpasand +9 more
TL;DR: The findings indicate that Aβ 1–42 and pathogenic P-tau may induce each other and cause almost identical neurotoxicity in a time-dependent manner, while tauopathy seems to be more distributable than amyloidopathy.
