An orthodontic arch expander joins to a mouthpiece proximate to the rear of the mouthpiece. The transparent mouthpiece has a desired arc that fits over the teeth of the upper jaw. The mouthpiece has two wings that join near the incisors and then become parallel and spaced apart around the molars. Near the molars, an arch expander joins to the mouth piece. The arch expander has two telescoping shells with a threaded jack and cooperating springs. Each shell joins to a corresponding wing of the mouthpiece. Turning the jack lengthens a rod that pushes the shells outwards against the mouthpiece thus widening the maxillary arch without brackets or bands upon the teeth. An alternate embodiment has the arch expander attaching directly to the palatal bone through screws placed through a grommet at the end of each shell by an orthodontist or oral surgeon.

Maxillary arch expander unbanded to teeth

Teeth within a patient's mouth are moved by an orthodontic method of treatment in which orthodontic appliances are installed at a desired time during the treatment on the teeth to be moved. Cortical bone adjacent the roots of the teeth to be moved is partially decorticated. Bone grafting material is installed between the partially decorticated cortical bone and the mucoperiosteum. The orthondontic appliances are adjusted thereafter as needed to move the teeth toward the positions desired. One orthodontic appliance which can be used for applying orthopedic force between a patient's anterior teeth on one side of an edentulous area and a patient's posterior teeth on the other side includes a front body, a back body and a screw member operatively connected between them. The screw member is adjustable to cause the front body and the back body to move away from one another and to move toward one another while transmitting an orthopedic force between them. At least one slide rod extends between the front body and the back body and is slidable through at least one of these as they move toward and away from one another. The front body is coupled to at least one anterior tooth and the back body is coupled to at least one posterior tooth so as to transmit the orthopedic force between these teeth as the screw member is adjusted.

Orthodontic method and device

A new expansion complex is provided for a mandibular and maxillary arch expander. The arch expander includes first and second forward orthodontic bands and a pair of rear orthodontic bands operatively connected to the forward orthodontic bands. The expansion complex includes an arm extending lingually from a lingual side of the first forward orthodontic band. An expander body is rotationally mounted on the arm to rotate about the arm. A passage extends through the body, and the arm extends into a rear end of the passage. The body passage is internally threaded near the front of the body. An expansion rod is mounted to a lingual side of the second forward orthodontic band. The expansion rod is externally threaded at a rear end thereof to be threadedly received in the threaded portion of the body passage. The expansion rod has a bore extending forwardly from the rear end of the rod which receives the arm. The back end of the body passage can be counterbored to receive a coil spring which is journaled about the arm.

Mandibular and maxillary arch expander

The present invention relates to a palatal expansion device that has a screw having an activator (e.g., one or more activation arms) wherein the screw connects two blocks, each block having an opening for receiving the screw; a stabilizer attached to the blocks; and an anti-wind-back mechanism (e.g., a spring extension) positioned opposite the activation mechanism. In another embodiment, the present invention includes a palatal expansion device that has at least one screw, wherein the screw connects with one or more blocks and the blocks have an opening for receiving the screw. The device further includes one or more stabilizers attached to the blocks; a ratchet that engages the screw; and a built-in activator that communicates with the ratchet. This design allows essentially unidirectional rotation of the screw. The ratchet system includes, in one aspect, a pin/pocket arrangement, or a ratchet wheel/spring arrangement. The present invention involves kits and methods for expanding the maxillary arch or mandible using the palatal expansion devices of the present invention.

Palatal expansion device and methods

The present invention provides methods for moving a tooth to a desired position within a patient's mouth using orthodontics including perforating tissue in the oral cavity sufficient to induce an inflammatory response. The perforations may be made in any area of the maxilla or mandible, and any number of perforations may be made that are preferably 05 to 1 5 mm diameter, and preferably 1 to 3mm deep. The invention also provides a device that may be used in conjunction with slow-speed rotary instruments or with manual drivers for providing the perforations. The device has a drill that makes the perforations and a stop that prevents the drill from penetrating the jaw bone beyond a predetermined depth. The invention also provides a kit that supplies the professional with the necessary components in a sealed container to carry out the osteoperforations.

Orthodontic methods and devices

Expansion screw for tooth adjustment having two expansion screw body members each embeddable in a plastic palate plate, these body members being provided with retention grooves for anchoring in the plastic of these palate plates, also having a threaded spindle and two guide pins, wherein the threaded spindle has spindle sections with opposite threads on either side of a central section, these spindle sections engaging in corresponding threaded bores of the expansion screw body members, and wherein the latter have guide openings for the passage of the guide pins extending parallel to the threaded spindle. In order to reduce the size of the two expansion screw body members, the latter are of a hat-shaped design in the side view and provided at their central regions with retention grooves and, in addition, at their facing inner end faces with recesses for accommodating the central section of the threaded spindle, these recesses being designed such that these end faces can abut on one another when the threaded spindle is turned and that in this state of the expansion screw the central section of the threaded spindle provided with a tool attachment point is accessible from the outside.

Zur Verkleinerung der beiden Dehnschraubenkorperteile sind die letzteren in der Seitenansicht hutformig ausgebildet, an ihren mittleren Bereichen mit den Retentionen und auserdem an ihren einander zugewandten inneren Stirnseiten mit Aussparungen zur Aufnahme des Gewindespindel-Mittelabschnitts versehen, welche so gestaltet sind, das sich durch Drehen der Gewindespindel diese Stirnseiten gegeneinander anlegen lassen und das in diesem Zustand der Dehnschraube der mit einer Werkzeug-Ansetzstelle versehene Mittelabschnitt der Gewindespindel von ausen zuganglich ist.
