Journal ArticleDOI

The association between antibodies to neurotropic pathogens and schizophrenia: a case-control study

TL;DR: The hypothesis that increased exposure to neurotropic pathogens after birth is associated with schizophrenia is not supported, as the results do not support the hypothesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microglial activation in schizophrenia: Is translocator 18 kDa protein (TSPO) the right marker?

TL;DR: It is shown that TSPO expression is not increased in postmortem brain tissue of schizophrenia patients, not correlated with expression of microglial activation markers, not restricted to microglia, and not upregulated in ex vivo activated human primary microglIA.
Journal ArticleDOI

The association between antibodies to neurotropic pathogens and bipolar disorder : A study in the Dutch Bipolar (DB) Cohort and meta-analysis.

TL;DR: The seroprevalence and titer levels of IgG antibodies against several herpesviruses and Toxoplasma gondii in plasma of 760 patients with a bipolar disorder, first-degree matched relatives and 132 controls and a literature-based meta-analysis indicates that T. Gondii exposure may be a risk factor for BD in certain subpopulations.
