Journal ArticleDOI
Glioblastoma-derived extracellular vesicles modify the phenotype of monocytic cells
Jeroen de Vrij,S L Niek Maas,Kitty M. C. Kwappenberg,Rosalie Schnoor,Anne Kleijn,Lennard J. M. Dekker,Theo M. Luider,Lot de Witte,Manja Litjens,Miriam E. van Strien,Elly M. Hol,Jérôme Kroonen,Pierre A. Robe,Martine L.M. Lamfers,Marco W. Schilham,Marike L. D. Broekman +15 more
TL;DR: GBM‐derived EVs can modify cells of the monocytic lineage, which acquire characteristics that resemble the tumor‐supportive phenotypes observed in patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microglia in post-mortem brain tissue of patients with bipolar disorder are not immune activated
Marjolein A. M. Sneeboer,G. Snijders,Woutje M. Berdowski,Alba Fernández-Andreu,Hans C. van Mierlo,Amber Berdenis van Berlekom,Manja Litjens,René S. Kahn,René S. Kahn,René S. Kahn,Elly M. Hol,Elly M. Hol,Lot D. de Witte,Lot D. de Witte,Lot D. de Witte +14 more
TL;DR: It is shown that microglia in post-mortem brain tissue of patients with BD are not immune activated, and ex vivo isolated microGlia isolated from fresh brain tissue did not show elevated expression of inflammatory markers.
Journal ArticleDOI
The association between antibodies to neurotropic pathogens and schizophrenia: a case-control study
Lot de Witte,Hans C. van Mierlo,Manja Litjens,Hans C. Klein,Sabine Bahn,A. D. M. E. Osterhaus +5 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis that increased exposure to neurotropic pathogens after birth is associated with schizophrenia is not supported, as the results do not support the hypothesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microglial activation in schizophrenia: Is translocator 18 kDa protein (TSPO) the right marker?
Marjolein A. M. Sneeboer,Thalia F. van der Doef,Manja Litjens,N.B.B. Psy,Jeroen Melief,Elly M. Hol,René S. Kahn,Lot D. de Witte,Lot D. de Witte,Lot D. de Witte +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that TSPO expression is not increased in postmortem brain tissue of schizophrenia patients, not correlated with expression of microglial activation markers, not restricted to microglia, and not upregulated in ex vivo activated human primary microglIA.
Journal ArticleDOI
The association between antibodies to neurotropic pathogens and bipolar disorder : A study in the Dutch Bipolar (DB) Cohort and meta-analysis.
G. Snijders,Hans C. van Mierlo,Marco P. Boks,Marieke J. H. Begemann,Arjen L. Sutterland,Manja Litjens,Roel A. Ophoff,René S. Kahn,René S. Kahn,Lot de Witte,Lot de Witte +10 more
TL;DR: The seroprevalence and titer levels of IgG antibodies against several herpesviruses and Toxoplasma gondii in plasma of 760 patients with a bipolar disorder, first-degree matched relatives and 132 controls and a literature-based meta-analysis indicates that T. Gondii exposure may be a risk factor for BD in certain subpopulations.
