Journal ArticleDOI
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease a feature of the metabolic syndrome
Giulio Marchesini,Mara Brizi,Giampaolo Bianchi,Sara Tomassetti,Elisabetta Bugianesi,Marco Lenzi,Arthur J. McCullough,S. Natale,Gabriele Forlani,Nazario Melchionda +9 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that NAFLD, in the presence of normoglycemia and normal or moderately increased body weight, is characterized by clinical and laboratory data similar to those found in diabetes and obesity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease with insulin resistance
Giulio Marchesini,Mara Brizi,Antonio Maria Morselli-Labate,Giampaolo Bianchi,Elisabetta Bugianesi,Arthur J. McCullough,Gabriele Forlani,Nazario Melchionda +7 more
TL;DR: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is associated with insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia even in lean subjects with normal glucose tolerance, and genetic factors that reduce insulin sensitivity and increase serum triglyceride levels may be responsible for its development.
Journal ArticleDOI
Zinc supplementation and amino acid-nitrogen metabolism in patients with advanced cirrhosis
TL;DR: The data indicate that long‐term oral zinc speeds up the kinetics of urea formation from amino acids and ammonia, whereas the beneficial effects on encephalopathy might stem from decreased ammonia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Infectious Diseases Team for the Early Management of Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock in the Emergency Department
Pierluigi Viale,Sara K. Tedeschi,Luigia Scudeller,Luciano Attard,Lorenzo Badia,Michele Bartoletti,Alessandra Cascavilla,Francesco Cristini,Nicola Dentale,Giovanni Fasulo,Giorgio Legnani,Filippo Trapani,Fabio Tumietto,Gabriella Verucchi,Giulio Virgili,Andrea Berlingeri,Simone Ambretti,Chiara De Molo,Mara Brizi,Mario Cavazza,Maddalena Giannella +20 more
TL;DR: Implementation of an ID team for the early management of SS/SS in the ED improved the adherence to SSC recommendations and patient survival.
Journal Article
Nutritional treatment with branched-chain amino acids in advanced liver cirrhosis.
TL;DR: A consensus review, recently produced under the auspices of the European Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, concluded that patients with cirrhosis tend to be hypermetabolic, and a higher-than-normal supply of dietary proteins is needed to achieve nitrogen balance.
