TL;DR: The dark side of western modernity: global futures, decolonial options, that vislumbra certos "futuros globais" enquanto explora possiveis "opcoes descoloniais" as mentioned in this paper.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors explore Neohumanism and Neoha education alongside two dominant and contemporary paradigms of a global educational approach aimed at realizing the high ideals of a world united, internationalism and interculturalism, assessing their compatibilities and contrasts, examining their strengths and weaknesses, and suggesting ways in which the integration of certain principles and practices might result in a synthesis that is more comprehensive and effective than any of them alone.
Abstract: Neohumanism is a philosophy propounded by Prabhat Rainjan Sarkar which recognizes that humanity needs a new narrative that can provide the inspiration, direction, and tools with which to transform individual selves and collective futures. While acknowledging the vital role that Humanism has played in the historical march towards greater freedom, justice, peace, knowledge, and the utopian vision of a united humanity, Neohumanism challenges the limitations of Humanism, entangled as it is with the host of power/over tactics that characterize modernity. “Diversifying Universalism” explores Neohumanism and Neohumanist education alongside two dominant and contemporary paradigms of a global educational approach aimed at realizing the high ideals of a world united, internationalism and interculturalism, assessing their compatibilities and contrasts, examining their strengths and weaknesses, and suggesting ways in which the integration of certain principles and practices might result in a synthesis that is more comprehensive and effective than any of them alone.

TL;DR: Perrone et al. as mentioned in this paper studied the evolution of Brazilian poetry in the contemporary period through the principal currents, multiple tendencies, and aesthetic tensions that have made the Brazilian lyric so creatively diverse.
Abstract: Brazil, perhaps more than any other nation of the Americas, has placed poetry at the forefront of dialogue and debate about the limits and uses of art, the social duties of artists, and the nature of nationalism and national identity. In \"Seven Faces\", Charles A. Perrone charts the course of Brazilian poetry in the contemporary period through the principal currents, multiple tendencies, and aesthetic tensions that have made the Brazilian lyric so creatively diverse. Perrone introduces the most important poetic themes of the second half of this century with a look back at Brazilian modernism and the avant-garde legacy of poets of the 1920s and 30s. Brazilian poets, the author reveals, have long drawn inspiration from the other arts, experimenting with the inclusion of music, graphic arts, and other non-traditional elements within lyric forms. Relating aesthetic concerns to cultural issues, Perrone elucidates the major poetic movements in Brazil since modernismo: concretism and vanguard poetry, politically committed verse of the 60s, youth poetry of the 70s, the lyricism of Brazil's renowned popular music, and the rethinking of poetry through postmodernism in the final decades of this century. Providing a window on the ways in which poetry reflects a national spirit and offers a measure of the status of culture in a consumer society, \"Seven Faces\" is the only book-length study in English of contemporary Brazilian poetry. It will be welcomed by students and scholars of Latin American literature, as well as by general readers interested in poetry and its influence on culture and society.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe and analyze the territorial conflicts produced with: 1) the traditional community in Ruropolis (Santarenzinho Community); and, 2) the fishing community in Itaituba (Colony of fishermen Z-56) in view of the territorialization of agribusiness.
EnglishThere are new agents in the Amazon now (nation-states, multinationals, banks and funds), new interests and new scales of spoliation and financial integration, whose practical results materialized in the territories are of a pattern of violence and conflicts, for example: intimidation, physical and verbal assaults, death threats, assassination attempts and murders. However, there is an emergence of particularities and singularities, in terms of violence and dynamic forms of conflict in the Eastern Amazon. Such particularities and singularities are "visualized" in the west of the Para state, of which, more recently, it constitutes the stage (of a cartography) of intensification of conflicts, mainly due to the territorialization of agribusiness (fertilizer companies, warehouses, ports, gas stations, multinationals). Considering such discussion, the goal is to describe and analyze the territorial conflicts (TCs) produced with: 1) the traditional community in Ruropolis (Santarenzinho Community); and, 2) the fishing community in Itaituba (Colony of fishermen Z-56) in view of the territorialization of agribusiness. Having as a question to pursue: What are the actors involved and the forms (singularities and patterns) of such TCs as well as the disputed territories and “territory views” in these TCs in the Eastern Amazon, west of the state of Para, specifically the Santarenzinho community and the artisanal fishermen from Itaituba? portuguesHa hoje na Amazonia novos agentes (estados-nacoes, multinacionais, bancos e fundos), novos interesses e novas escalas de espoliacao e integracao financeira, cujos resultados praticos, materializados nos territorios, sao de uma padronizacao de violencias e conflitos, por exemplo: intimidacoes, agressoes fisicas e verbais, ameacas de morte, tentativas de assassinatos e mesmo assassinatos.

TL;DR: In this article, quali-quanti methodology was applied to analyze the implementation of Law no. 12,990/2014 on quotas for Black candidates at 63 federal universities and 38 federal ‘institutes' during the period that spanned 2014 to 2018.
Abstract: In this study, quali-quanti methodology was applied to analyze the implementation of Law no. 12,990/2014 on quotas for Black candidates at 63 federal universities and 38 federal ‘institutes’ (secondary and vocational training), during the period that spanned 2014 to 2018. The law reserves 20% of teaching vacancies filled through federal civil servant examinations for Black people. We observe the distance that separates the legally-stipulated conditions and actual practice in these institutions. As five years have now gone by since the passage of this legislation, it seems safe to say that the goal of expanding racial/color diversity in federal civil service will not be achieved through public examinations for teaching careers. Moreover, meeting this goal becomes progressively harder, given the present scenario of resurgence of meritocratic discourses that question the legitimacy of affirmative actions for Afro-Brazilians.
