Abstract: This paper analyzes issues related to education, crises and changes in light of the postmodern order, emphasizing efforts towards human capital as the impetus to promote changes. Focusing on universities and organizations, we discuss the main five types of minds valued by modern and future societies, proposing investment in human assets through the use of strategies and technologies to ensure continuing education throughout life.

Abstract: This is a descriptive and quantitative study, carried out in three hospitals in the Northwest of Sao Paulo, Brazil. It aimed to verify the existence and use of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) by nursing teams. SOPs describe each critical and sequential step of a task to ensure its expected result. A total of 261 nursing professionals participated in the study, randomly selected from different units and shifts between August and September 2006. Results indicate that 56.7% use SOPs only when they have doubts; 54.02% of the nursing technicians and auxiliaries and 62.86% of nurses do not believe the procedures are being complied with. These findings indicate the need for continuing training on SOP use and compliance by all professionals, with a view to improving nursing care.

Abstract: Objective: to discuss possibilities of nursing contribution for universal health coverage. Method: a qualitative study, performed by means of document analysis of the World Health Organization publications highlighting Nursing and Midwifery within universal health coverage. Results: documents published by nursing and midwifery leaders point to the need for coordinated and integrated actions in education, leadership and partnership development. Final Considerations: this article represents a call for nurses, in order to foster reflection and understanding of the relevance of their work on the consolidation of the principles of universal health coverage.

Abstract: This descriptive and exploratory study aimed to verify the existence of factors related to the standardization of urinary catheters in a city in the interior of the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Data was collected through interviews after approval obtained from the Research Ethics Committee of the University of Sao Paulo at Ribeirao Preto School of Nursing. Of the nine hospital institutions who took part in the study, 100% have a standardized procedure for urinary catheterization. The institutions present differences in the proposed procedure, which interferes positively and negatively in its standardization and places doubt upon whether the standardized procedure is indeed being carried out. This study concludes that there is a need to reevaluate the proposed standardization, with interdisciplinary discussions to verify if the proposal is being carried out and to search for applicable training and teaching strategies. El estudio fue realizado a traves de entrevistas, mediante aprobacion del Comite de Etica en Investigacion de la Escuela de Enfermeria de Ribeirao Preto. De las nueve instituciones hospitalarias entrevistadas, 100% posee un procedimiento de cateterizacion vesical estandarizado. Las instituciones presentan diferencias en el procedimiento propuesto, lo que interfiere de manera positiva y negativa en su estandarizacion y pone en duda si el estandarizado es el que esta siendo realizado. Se concluye que existe la necesidad de reevaluar la estandarizacion propuesta, con discusiones interdisciplinarias, verificar si el propuesto esta siendo realizado y buscar estrategias de entrenamiento y ensenanza pasibles de aplicacion. Abstract: Objective: This study aimed to identify and describe myths and rituals in preparing patients for urinary catheter insertion. Methods: This was an observational, exploratory and descriptive study conducted in nine hospitals of a city in the interior of Brazil. Following ethical precepts, data were collected by interview, with the nurse designated by the institution, using a semistructured instrument. Abstract: OBJETIVOS: particularizar o ritual do ensino de procedimentos basicos de enfermagem, analisar as implicacoes de sua utilizacao e discutir sua pertinencia, face aos contextos atuais para o ensino e para a pratica. METODOS: estudo historico-social de rituais incorporados ao metodo de ensino teorico-pratico de Enfermagem em Portugal e no Brasil. Como fontes primarias, foram utilizados documentos escritos (oficios, apostilas, manuais) e fotograficos; e como fontes secundarias: livros-texto, dissertacao de mestrado, tese de doutoramento e artigos de periodicos. RESULTADOS: descricao, analise, interpretacao e sintese que expoe ao leitor uma viagem na historia quanto aos rituais e mudancas ocorridas na formacao de recursos humanos de enfermagem e saude. A simulacao foi discutida em termos da pertinencia face as exigencias eticas, seguranca e qualidade em saude, avanco tecnologico e mudancas nos ambientes e contextos da pratica clinica. CONCLUSAO: o uso da simulacao atende as necessidades e ao contexto atual de ensino teorico-pratico.

Abstract: Esta pesquisa torna-se importante na medida em que contribui para a reflexao sobre acoes educativas dirigidas aos trabalhadores de enfermagem, com enfoque na finalidade, nos instrumentos e nos sujeitos responsaveis pelo cuidado. Teve como objetivo geral analisar os efeitos das acoes de educacao permanente na qualidade de assistencia de enfermagem, em um hospital privado, de grande porte, no municipio de Belo Horizonte, MG. Optou-se por um estudo qualitativo na corrente filosofica da dialetica, tendo como sujeitos 02 enfermeiros, 17 auxiliares e tecnicos de enfermagem do 8o e 9o andares e a gerente de enfermagem. Os resultados revelaram que as acoes educativas nao estao articuladas ao processo de trabalho e que existe a necessidade de aprimoramento gerencial dos enfermeiros, possibilitando a realizacao da pedagogia de problematizacao. Conclui-se que deveria ser revista a insercao dos profissionais da enfermagem no contexto do processo de trabalho, articulada com a capacitacao baseada na estrategia da educacao permanente.

Abstract: A evolucao dos Direitos Humanos no suporte a toda historia esta intimamente relacionado com todos os seres humanos. De modo que todos, perante as desigualdades existentes entre os povos, ha o reconhecimento universal, de que nenhum individuo, seja pela classe social, grupo religioso, etnia, pode firmar-se superior aos demais. A dignidade humana ao longo de toda historia foi indagada atraves da religiao, da filosofia e da ciencia, porem foi no periodo axial (entre os seculos VIII e II a.C.) que o ser humano passou a ser considerado com igualdade, pois e dotado de liberdade e razao, sem, portanto, estarem em evidencia as suas multiplas diferencas. Contudo, a Declaracao Universal dos Direitos Humanos, demorou mais de 25 seculos ate se tomasse a consciencia de que todos os individuos nascem livres e iguais em dignidade e direitos. Portanto, ha de concluir que a historia da evolucao dos Direitos Humanos foi um vasto caminho liderado pela mitologia, religiao e ciencia. Ao qual surgiram documentos com textos normativos que declaram os direitos humanos e criam garantias especificas para tutelar tal direito. E assim, criaram a partir de grandes acontecimentos historicos o conjunto de protecao aos direitos humanos, mormente, ao individuo, e que pode ser chamado de em um novo tempo historico, qual seja a era da cidadania mundial.
