First multispacecraft ion measurements in and near the Earth's magnetosphere with the identical Cluster ion spectrometry (CIS) experiment

TL;DR: The Cluster Ion Spectrometry (CIS) experiment as discussed by the authors measured the full, three-dimensional ion distribution of the major magnetospheric ions (H+, He+, He++, and O+) from the thermal energies to about 40 keV/e.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multifractal structure of auroral electrojet index data.

TL;DR: In this article, the scaling properties of the auroral electrojet index (AE) time series were investigated using a multifractal approach, based on ''singularity analysis'' which can be interpreted as an indication of turbulence in magnetospheric dynamics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Contribution of nonadiabatic ions to the cross-tail current in an O+ dominated thin current sheet

TL;DR: In this paper, the O+ dominated thin current sheet is observed to stream from dawn to dusk across the tail, as predicted for nonadiabatic ions by Speiser (1965), and the current contribution from these ions is calculated and found that they carry about 5-10% of the cross-tail current.
