Journal ArticleDOI
Systematics of the Neotropical Genus Leptodactylus Fitzinger, 1826 (Anura: Leptodactylidae): Phylogeny, the Relevance of Non-molecular Evidence, and Species Accounts
Rafael O. de Sá,Taran Grant,Arley Camargo,Arley Camargo,W. Ronald Heyer,María Laura Ponssa,Edward L. Stanley,Edward L. Stanley +7 more
TL;DR: The phylogeny of the species-rich clade of the Neotropical frog genus Leptodactylus sensu stricto is presented on the basis of a total evidence analysis of molecular and non-molecular evidence sampled from > 80% of the 75 currently recognized species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cladistic analysis and osteological descriptions of the frog species in the Leptodactylus fuscus species group (Anura, Leptodactylidae)
TL;DR: The monophyly of the group was strongly supported in the fittest cladogram obtained and the optimizations of some characters on this hypothesis support traditional evolutionary hypotheses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sesamoids in Anurans: New Data, Old Issues
TL;DR: This work integrates ontogenetic data of anuran sesamoids in two species (Leptodactylus latinasus and Pleurodema cf. guayapae), the related structures (tendons, muscles, and joints) in L. latinaus, and a survey of sesAMoid distribution in 185 anuran taxa.
Journal ArticleDOI
Patterns of skull development in anurans: size and shape relationship during postmetamorphic cranial ontogeny in five species of the Leptodactylus fuscus Group (Anura: Leptodactylidae)
TL;DR: It is suggested that a process of progenesis determines the small, juvenile-like cranium of L. latinasus, a group of small- to medium-sized frogs, suggesting that postmetamorphic stages can contribute with informative characters to phylogenetic analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ontogeny and tissue differentiation of the pelvic girdle and hind limbs of anurans
TL;DR: The ontogeny of the integrated musculoskeletal complex that comprises the pelvic girdle and hind limbs of anurans is presented and three new characters that support the monophyly of Hyloides, Acosmanura and Neobatrachia are provided.
