Abstract: Esboca um esforco de compreensao abrangente, de modo a situar os caminhos percorridos nos ultimos dez anos pelas iniciativas focalizadas nos segmentos juvenis da sociedade brasileira. Com base em uma concepcao democratica de realizacao das politicas publicas e de uma clara defesa dos jovens como sujeitos de direitos, inicia uma analise das politicas para a juventude. Para tanto, a partir de algumas consideracoes teoricas sobre o tema juventude, particularmente sobre sua abrangencia, examina as acoes federais propostas no periodo de 1995/2002 e traca alguns dos caminhos percorridos no âmbito dos municipios em direcao a constituicao dessas politicas.

Abstract: The article surveys the research on the relationships between violence and school in Brazil after 1980. It examines the rare quantitative diagnostics about the issue, and the theses and dissertations produced in graduate programs in Education in the same period. Although still incipient those studies already draw an important picture of the phenomenon in Brazil, displaying the leading modes of violence: acts against property - vandalism, graffiti - and interpersonal aggression, mainly among the pupils. During this period, violence at school has been examined both as a consequence of a significant set of inadequate school practices, and as one of the aspects that characterizes the violence of contemporary society. Under the latter viewpoint, some of the works have investigated the dynamics of the workings of schools located in areas influenced by drug traffic or organized crime, and a small subset tried to understand the behavior of pupils as a socialization marked by aggressions and petty crime, characterized as incivility originated in the crisis of civilizatory process of contemporary society.

Abstract: New forms of collective action spring up in the realm of urban life and feature as main actors the young dwellers of the outskirts of cities like Sao Paulo (Brazil). Brought about from the sociability in the world of the streets, these forms of action structure the young actors around various trends which may result in the formation of gangs, mobs and racist groups - the skinheads - or groups which gather round activities of self expression like music. As from the mid 80s one has seen the springing up and spreading of RAP music groups (Rhythm and Poetry). By means of dance and music, which is carried out in the streets, RAP gathers mostly the poor young black people and points out cultural exclusion, police violence and discrimination at work and school.

Procura-se apresentar, no decorrer do texto, problemas que envolvem, por exemplo, a delimitacao do universo de pesquisa, a definicao de criterios para a selecao dos sujeitos a serem entrevistados, elaboracao de roteiros de entrevistas e sua realizacao, organizacao e analise de dados qualitativos, entre outros, visando contribuir com as discussoes relativas a adocao desse tipo de metodologia no campo educacional.

Abstract: Discute como jovens das camadas populares, com base em seu cotidiano, constroem determinados modos de ser jovem. Nessa construcao colocam em questao uma serie de nocoes e representacoes correntes sobre a juventude. Toma como foco o cotidiano de integrantes de grupos musicais de rap e funk, buscando revela-los na sua condicao de jovens, para alem da sua participacao nos grupos musicais. Constata que os jovens, mediados pelos estilos, reelaboram as imagens correntes sobre a juventude, criando modos proprios de ser jovem, e expressam a reivindicacao do direito a juventude.
