Abstract: Objetivo. Conclusion.

TL;DR: Multibreed genetic evaluation models allow the prediction of animal breeding values in a population of animals of various breed compositions to yield additive and nonadditive animal genetic values, which allow more precise selection decisions and mating plans.
Abstract: Multibreed genetic evaluation models allow the prediction of animal breeding values in a population of animals of various breed compositions. The structure of this type of model depends on the traits to be evaluated and the multibreed population to be analyzed, and they eventually yield additive and nonadditive animal genetic values, which allow more precise selection decisions and mating plans.

TL;DR: The breed additive effect seemed to be overestimated when the maternal effect was not included in the model and the maternal breed effect and individual and maternal heterosis should be included in models used for genetic evaluation of pre-weaning daily gain in this composite cattle population.
Abstract: Three different models including or not the direct and maternal non-additive effects and the fixed effects of contemporary group, parity order, direct and maternal heterosis and the direct and maternal additive genetic random effects were compared for predicting breeding values for pre-weaning daily gain in a composite cattle population in tropical climate. The analyses were done in two stages: firstly, breed and individual and maternal heterosis effects were estimated and after variances and the heritability were obtained for prediction of breeding values of the animals. The breed additive effect seemed to be overestimated when the maternal effect was not included in the model. Estimates of additive and maternal breed effects and individual and maternal heterosis for pre-weaning daily gain were significantly different for the biological types. Direct and maternal heritability estimates from analyses using data adjusted for direct and maternal non-additive effects were respectively 0.22 and 0.20. The maternal breed effect and individual and maternal heterosis should be included in models used for genetic evaluation of pre-weaning daily gain in this composite cattle population.

Abstract: The objective of this study was to estimate the heritability value of the character interval between births in a population of 2112 Romosinuano cows, and to determine the factors responsible for the variation of this character through the generalized mixed linear model. The 7560 records of interval between birth from 1936 to 2016 were analyzed. The mean interval between births was 379.74 ± 49.22 days (CV = 12.96%); the classes month of birth, number of intervals between births and year of birth had a statistically significant effect on this character. The lowest intervals between births occurred between April and June (367.12 ± 46.06 days); cows of the fourth-fifth birds (373.93 ± 46.93 days), and between 1956 and 1965 (370.48 ± 50.55 days). The highest values of the interval between births were presented between October and December (388.92 ± 57.96 days), in cows of a second and third birth (389.70 ± 49.38 days), third and four intervals between births (382.18 ± 51.19 days) and cows whose birth occurred in the period 1946-1955 (387.69 ± 56.75 days). The estimated heritability for this character was low (0.0001 ± 0.002). It a concluded that the Romosinuano breed is reproductively efficient, however, given its low heritability, the selection for this character will have a relatively low effect due to the wide effect of environmental factors on its variation, and the generalized mixed linear model is a tool that allows this type of studies.

TL;DR: In this paper, the comportamiento reproductivo en vacas lecheras de agroempresas with two niveles tecnologicos (NT): transicion and empresarial, was evaluated.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors estimate genetic parameters for age at first calving (AFC) and calving interval (CI) in 22 herds of Blanco Orejinegro cattle in Colombia.
Abstract: Objective: to estimate genetic parameters for age at first calving (AFC) and calving interval (CI) in 22 herds of Blanco Orejinegro cattle in Colombia. Methods: a total of 1,256 records for AFC and 3,803 for CI, obtained between years 1981 and 2010 were analyzed. The (Co) variances components were estimated by a derivative-free restricted maximum likelihood procedure in a bi-trait animal model. Results: average of AFC and CI were 1,104 ± 141 and 487 ± 147 days, respectively. Heritabilities were 0.15 and 0.13 for AFC and CI, respectively, with -0.43 genetic correlation. The herd and year of birth were included as fixed effects for the AFC, while parity number and the covariate age of dam at farrow were analyzed for CI. All the effects had a significant influence over the CI variance. Conclusions: the values obtained for these traits indicate that selection for calving interval and age at first calving may have a relatively low impact, due to the large environmental effect on the variation of both parameters in these breed populations.
