The Assessment of Endothelial Function From Research Into Clinical Practice

TL;DR: The assessment of its vasodilator properties resulting from NO and other molecules may provide information on the integrity and function of the endothelium, and most, if not all, cardiovascular risk factors are associated with endothelial dysfunction, and risk factor modification leads to improvement in vascular function.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vitamin C improves endothelium-dependent vasodilation in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.

TL;DR: It is concluded that endothelial dysfunction in forearm resistance vessels of patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus can be improved by administration of the antioxidant, vitamin C, and support the hypothesis that nitric oxide inactivation by oxygen-derived free radicals contributes to abnormal vascular reactivity in diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Acute Hyperglycemia Attenuates Endothelium-Dependent Vasodilation in Humans In Vivo

TL;DR: Acute hyperglycemia impairs endothelium-dependent vasodilation in healthy humans in vivo, and suggests that elevated glucose may contribute to the endothelial dysfunction observed in patients with diabetes mellitus.
