TL;DR: The data show that patients in alcohol treatment are interested in smoking cessation, participate in treatment and demonstrate success; but there was no benefit of concurrent treatment, and drinking outcomes were worse with concurrent tobacco treatment.

TL;DR: Standard medical care alone was surprisingly effective in inducing abstinence in surviving medically ill alcoholics, and integrated outpatient treatment significantly increased both engagement and abstinence for a modest annual cost.
