Journal ArticleDOI
Sequence heterogeneity in the 18S rRNA gene in Theileria equi from horses presented in Switzerland
Qin Liu,Qin Liu,Marina L. Meli,Yi Zhang,Theres Meili,Martina Stirn,Barbara Riond,Beatrice Weibel,Regina Hofmann-Lehmann +8 more
TL;DR: The results prompt that species-specific probes must be designed in regions of the gene unique to T. equi, and Clinicians should be aware of the possibility of equine piroplasma infections outside of endemic areas and in horses without signs of piroPLasmosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
White blood cell count in birds: evaluation of a commercially available method
Lea Carisch,Martina Stirn,Jean-Michel Hatt,Karin Federer,Regina Hofmann-Lehmann,Barbara Riond +5 more
TL;DR: The Natt-Herricks-Tic® method showed acceptable precision for a manual method and demonstrated good agreement with the reference method and can be recommended as a reliable and suitable method for determining white blood cell counts in avian EDTA blood if nonstatistical quality control measures are used in the daily routine.
Journal ArticleDOI
Altered Serum Thyrotropin Concentrations in Dogs with Primary Hypoadrenocorticism before and during Treatment
Claudia E Reusch,Federico Fracassi,Nadja S Sieber-Ruckstuhl,W A Burkhardt,Nathalie Hofer-Inteeworn,C Schuppisser,Martina Stirn,Regina Hofmann-Lehmann,Felicitas S Boretti +8 more
TL;DR: Evaluation of thyroid function in untreated dogs with HA can lead to misdiagnosis of hypothyroidism; treatment with glucocorticoids for up to 4 months can be necessary to normalize cTSH.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rate of manual leukocyte differentials in dog, cat and horse blood samples using ADVIA 120 cytograms.
TL;DR: The obtained results are comparable to those published for human medicine and the rate of manual differentiation could be markedly reduced in veterinary laboratories if microscopic examination was used as a validation procedure rather than as a reflexive substitute for automated differentiation.
