Dehydration of xylose into furfural over micro-mesoporous sulfonic acid catalysts
TL;DR: The MCM-41 material with the highest loading of SAGs (0.7 meqg −1 ) showed fairly high selectivity for furfural (ca. 82% in DMSO or water/toluene mixture) at high xylose conversion (>90% within 24 h, at 140 °C).

TL;DR: In this paper, the one-pot hydrolysis/dehydration of mono/di/polysaccharides into furfural (FUR) or 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde (HMF) in the presence of an acidic ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate ([EMIM][HSO4]), at 100°C, was investigated.

TL;DR: In this paper, the exfoliated-aggregated composites were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, N 2 gas adsorption, and scanning electron microscopy, and the acid properties were measured by IR spectroscopy of adsorbed pyridine.
