TL;DR: The discovery of associated variants in unsuspected genes and outside coding regions illustrates the ability of genome-wide association studies to provide potentially important clues to the pathogenesis of common diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inpatient hyperglycaemia, and impact on morbidity, mortality and re-hospitalisation rates.
TL;DR: Hyperglycaemia is an important prognostic marker and may indicate a more severe illness in patients admitted to hospital and these patients should be highlighted for a greater level of care.
Journal ArticleDOI
Time trajectories of key cardiometabolic parameters and of cardiovascular risk in subjects with diabetes in a real world setting.
TL;DR: In this article , the trajectories of key metabolic parameters from 3 years prior to the diagnosis of diabetes to 10 years after diagnosis were explored and the risk of cardiovascular disease was calculated using the United Kingdom Prospective Study (UKPDS) risk engine.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hyperglycaemia and inpatient mortality and morbidity.
TL;DR: Seasonal variation in the relationship of hyperglycaemia to mortality is studied in view of the known seasonal variation in blood glucose levels by reviewing hospital admissions during different seasons.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence rates of metabolic health and body size phenotypes by different criteria and association with insulin resistance in a Maltese Caucasian population
TL;DR: In this article , the prevalence of the body size phenotypes using different definitions of metabolic health and to investigate which one of them is most strongly associated with insulin resistance in men and women were compared.
