TL;DR: The PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) as discussed by the authors is an update of the QUOROM guidelines for reporting systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Erythropoietin or Darbepoetin for patients with cancer--meta-analysis based on individual patient data.

TL;DR: ESA treatment in cancer patients increased on study mortality and worsened overall survival, and for patients undergoing chemotherapy the increase was less pronounced, but an adverse effect could not be excluded.

Recombinant Human Erythropoiesis Stimulating Agents in Cancer Patients: Individual Patient Data Meta-Analysis on Behalf of the EPO IPD Meta-Analysis Collaborative Group
Julia Bohlius,Corinne Brillant,Mike Clarke,Sabine Kluge,Maryann Napoli,Margaret Piper,Dirk Rades,Isabelle Ray-Coquard,Kurt Schmidlin,Martin Schumacher,Guido Schwarzer,Jerome Seidenfeld,David P. Steensma,Sven Trelle,Michael Untch,Olaf Weingart,Marcel Zwahlen,Matthias Egger,Andreas Engert +18 more
TL;DR: Erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs) reduce anemia in cancer patients; however, there are concerns that ESAs increase mortality in some patients, so a patient-level meta-analysis of cancer patients enrolled in randomized controlled trials to assess the effects of ESAs on mortality and overall survival was conducted.
