Journal ArticleDOI

Presenilin 2 modulates endoplasmic reticulum (ER)–mitochondria interactions and Ca2+ cross-talk

TL;DR: It is shown that overexpression or down-regulation of PS2, but not of presenilin 1 (PS1), modulates the Ca2+ shuttling between ER and mitochondria, with its FAD mutants strongly favoring Ca2 + transfer between the two organelles.
Journal ArticleDOI

Insulin resistance and cancer: the role of insulin and IGFs

TL;DR: Evidence highlighting recent advances in understanding on the role of ILPs as the link between insulin resistance and cancer and between immune deregulation and cancer in obesity are discussed, as well as those areas where there remains a paucity of data.
Journal ArticleDOI

Signaling pathways bridging microbial-triggered inflammation and cancer

TL;DR: Recent findings on the implication of inflammatory signaling pathways in microbial-triggered carcinogenesis as well as the possible role of microbiota modulation in cancer prevention are herein summarized and discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ca2+ dysregulation in neurons from transgenic mice expressing mutant presenilin 2

TL;DR: A model is described that integrates into a unifying hypothesis the contradictory effects on Ca2+ homeostasis of different PS mutations and points to the relevance of these findings in neurodegeneration and aging.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Emerging Roles of the Calcineurin-Nuclear Factor of Activated T-Lymphocytes Pathway in Nervous System Functions and Diseases.

TL;DR: The current understanding of the roles of calcineurin/NFAT signaling in physiology and pathologies of the adult and developing nervous system is discussed, with an emphasis on recent reports and cutting-edge findings.
