Abstract: Schizophrenia has been studied from 2 main perspectives - biological and environmental. This study aims to integrate these two approaches into what the authors call a "transactional" model, examining how these influences interact to produce and maintain the symptoms and disabilities associated with schizophrenia. The implications of this model for the treatment and management of schizophrenia are also explored. At the same time, the book provides a review of the major areas of research, both biological and environmental and describes an evaluates the important psychological, psychosocial and medical therapies associated with schizophrenia.
