Journal ArticleDOI
Re-epithelialization and immune cell behaviour in an ex vivo human skin model.
TL;DR: A novel wound model based on application of negative pressure and its effects for epidermal regeneration and immune cell behaviour is presented, which recapitulates the main features of epithelial wound regeneration, and can be applied for testing wound healing therapies and investigating underlying mechanisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
miR‐17, miR‐19b, miR‐20a, and miR‐106a are down‐regulated in human aging
Matthias Hackl,S. E. Brunner,Klaus Fortschegger,Carina Schreiner,Lucia Micutkova,Christoph Mück,Gerhard Laschober,Günter Lepperdinger,Natalie Sampson,Peter Berger,Dietmar Herndler-Brandstetter,Matthias Wieser,Harald Kühnel,Alois Strasser,Mark Rinnerthaler,Michael Breitenbach,Michael Mildner,Leopold Eckhart,Erwin Tschachler,Andrea Trost,Johann W. Bauer,Christine Papak,Zlatko Trajanoski,Marcel Scheideler,Regina Grillari-Voglauer,Beatrix Grubeck-Loebenstein,Pidder Jansen-Dürr,Johannes Grillari +27 more
TL;DR: Decrease in these miRNAs correlated with increased transcript levels of some established target genes, especially the cdk inhibitor p21/CDKN1A, establish mi RNAs as novel markers of cell aging in humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Knockdown of Filaggrin Impairs Diffusion Barrier Function and Increases UV Sensitivity in a Human Skin Model
Michael Mildner,Jiang Jin,Jiang Jin,Leopold Eckhart,Sanja Kezic,Florian Gruber,Caterina Barresi,Caroline Stremnitzer,Maria Buchberger,Veronika Mlitz,Claudia Ballaun,Barbara Sterniczky,Dagmar Födinger,Erwin Tschachler +13 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that knockdown of filaggrin expression in an organotypic skin model reproduces epidermal alterations caused by filag Grin mutations in vivo, and a link between filag grin and endogenous UVB protection is established.
Journal Article
Expression of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-3 and podoplanin suggests a lymphatic endothelial cell origin of Kaposi's sarcoma tumor cells.
Wolfgang Weninger,Taina A. Partanen,Silvana Breiteneder-Geleff,Christoph Mayer,Heinrich Kowalski,Michael Mildner,Johannes Pammer,Michael Stürzl,Dontscho Kerjaschki,Kari Alitalo,Erwin Tschachler +10 more
TL;DR: The findings that KS tumor cells express two lymphatic EC markers in situ strongly suggest that they are related to or even derived from the lymphaticEC lineage, and lack of these antigens on cultured cells derived from KS lesions indicates that they might not represent tumor cells that grow in tissue culture, but rather other cell types present in KS lesions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Filaggrin Genotype in Ichthyosis Vulgaris Predicts Abnormalities in Epidermal Structure and Function
Robert Gruber,Peter M. Elias,Debra Crumrine,Tzu Kai Lin,Johanna M. Brandner,Jean Pierre Hachem,Richard B. Presland,Philip Fleckman,Andreas R. Janecke,Aileen Sandilands,W.H. Irwin McLean,Peter O. Fritsch,Michael Mildner,Erwin Tschachler,Matthias Schmuth +14 more
TL;DR: It is reported here that the presence of FLG mutations in Caucasians predicts dose-dependent alterations in epidermal permeability barrier function, and this results clarify how flaggrin mutations impair epidersmal permeable barrier function.
