TL;DR: Important characteristics of the organic matter, including molecular weight distribution, carboxylic acidity, and humic substances content, appear to affect the removal of organic material although the results of this research do not permit one to accurately quantify source-related effects from process- related effects.
Abstract: The characterization of dissolved aquatic organic matter present in several natural water sources as well as corresponding treated waters derived from several types of water treatment processes is presented. Important characteristics of the organic matter, including molecular weight distribution, carboxylic acidity, and humic substances content, appear to affect the removal of organic material although the results of this research do not permit one to accurately quantify source-related effects from process-related effects.

TL;DR: The results show this antibody to be a sensitive and specific marker of mesenchymal derivation or differentiation and a useful tool in separating sarcomas from most carcinomas, and in separating malignant melanomas from carcinomas.
Abstract: In this study we examined 198 sarcomas, 38 carcinomas, 13 'tumours with a spindle cell component' and 22 malignant melanomas with a commercial monoclonal vimentin antibody All histopathological material was formalin fixed and paraffin embedded The results show this antibody to be a sensitive and specific marker of mesenchymal derivation or differentiation It is a useful tool in separating sarcomas from most carcinomas, and in separating malignant melanomas from carcinomas When used in combination with a cytokeratin antibody it identifies carcinosarcomas and synovial sarcomas

TL;DR: In this paper, a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) is presented.
Abstract: Deposits of clastic carbonate-dominated (calciclastic) sedimentary slope systems in the rock record have been identified mostly as linearly-consistent carbonate apron deposits, even though most ancient clastic carbonate slope deposits fit the submarine fan systems better. Calciclastic submarine fans are consequently rarely described and are poorly understood. Subsequently, very little is known especially in mud-dominated calciclastic submarine fan systems. Presented in this study are a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) that reveals a >250 m thick calciturbidite complex deposited in a calciclastic submarine fan setting. Seven facies are recognised from core and thin section characterisation and are grouped into three carbonate turbidite sequences. They include: 1) Calciturbidites, comprising mostly of highto low-density, wavy-laminated bioclast-rich facies; 2) low-density densite mudstones which are characterised by planar laminated and unlaminated muddominated facies; and 3) Calcidebrites which are muddy or hyper-concentrated debrisflow deposits occurring as poorly-sorted, chaotic, mud-supported floatstones. TL;DR: A review of the current state of the art in computational optimization methods applied to renewable and sustainable energy can be found in this article, which offers a clear vision of the latest research advances in this field.
Abstract: Energy is a vital input for social and economic development. As a result of the generalization of agricultural, industrial and domestic activities the demand for energy has increased remarkably, especially in emergent countries. This has meant rapid grower in the level of greenhouse gas emissions and the increase in fuel prices, which are the main driving forces behind efforts to utilize renewable energy sources more effectively, i.e. energy which comes from natural resources and is also naturally replenished. Despite the obvious advantages of renewable energy, it presents important drawbacks, such as the discontinuity of generation, as most renewable energy resources depend on the climate, which is why their use requires complex design, planning and control optimization methods. Fortunately, the continuous advances in computer hardware and software are allowing researchers to deal with these optimization problems using computational resources, as can be seen in the large number of optimization methods that have been applied to the renewable and sustainable energy field. This paper presents a review of the current state of the art in computational optimization methods applied to renewable and sustainable energy, offering a clear vision of the latest research advances in this field.
