Risk and predictors of dementia and parkinsonism in idiopathic REM sleep behaviour disorder: a multicentre study
Ronald B. Postuma,Alex Iranzo,Michele T.M. Hu,Birgit Högl,Bradley F. Boeve,Raffaele Manni,Wolfgang H. Oertel,Isabelle Arnulf,Luigi Ferini-Strambi,Monica Puligheddu,Elena Antelmi,Valérie Cochen De Cock,Dario Arnaldi,Brit Mollenhauer,Aleksandar Videnovic,Karel Sonka,Ki-Young Jung,Dieter Kunz,Yves Dauvilliers,Federica Provini,Simon J.G. Teigen,Gianpaolo Toscano,Geert Mayer,Silvia Morbelli,Benjamin Dawson,Amélie Pelletier +54 more
TL;DR: In a prospective multicentre study involving 1280 patients with idiopathic RBD, Postuma et al. test the predictive power of 21 prodromal markers of neurodegeneration, providing a template for planning neuroprotective trials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk factors for neurodegeneration in idiopathic rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder: A multicenter study
Ronald B. Postuma,Alex Iranzo,Birgit Högl,Isabelle Arnulf,Luigi Ferini-Strambi,Raffaele Manni,Tomoyuki Miyamoto,Wolfgang H. Oertel,Yves Dauvilliers,Yo-El Ju,Monica Puligheddu,Karel Sonka,Amélie Pelletier,Juan Santamaria,Birgit Frauscher,Smaranda Leu-Semenescu,Marco Zucconi,Michele Terzaghi,Masayuki Miyamoto,Marcus M. Unger,Bertrand Carlander,Maria Livia Fantini,Maria Livia Fantini,Jacques Montplaisir +23 more
TL;DR: To assess whether risk factors for Parkinson disease and dementia with Lewy bodies increase rate of defined neurodegenerative disease in idiopathic rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (RBD), a large number of animals were sacrificed for research purposes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relationship between hallucinations, delusions, and rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder in Parkinson's disease
Claudio Pacchetti,Raffaele Manni,Roberta Zangaglia,Francesca Mancini,Enrico Marchioni,Cristina Tassorelli,Michele Terzaghi,Maria Ossola,Emilia Martignoni,Arrigo Moglia,Giuseppe Nappi +10 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that RBD is widely associated with psychosis in Parkinson's disease, and independent clinical factors found to have an effect on psychotic disorders were cognitive impairment, disease duration, advanced age, and severity of motor symptoms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multicenter case-control study on restless legs syndrome in multiple sclerosis: the REMS study.
Mauro Manconi,Luigi Ferini-Strambi,Massimo Filippi,Enrica Bonanni,Alfonso Iudice,Luigi Murri,Gian Luigi Gigli,L. Protti,Franco Ferrillo,Marta Allena,Gianluigi Mancardi,Biancamaria Guarnieri,Francesco Londrillo +51 more
TL;DR: RLS is significantly associated with MS, especially in patients with severe pyramidal and sensory disability, and these results strengthen the idea that the inflammatory damage correlated with MS may induce a secondary form of RLS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence of dissociated arousal states during NREM parasomnia from an intracerebral neurophysiological study.
Michele Terzaghi,Ivana Sartori,Laura Tassi,Giuseppe Didato,Valter Rustioni,Giorgio LoRusso,Raffaele Manni,Lino Nobili +7 more
TL;DR: The presence of dissociated sleep/wake states in confusional arousals is the expression not of a global phenomenon, but rather of the coexistence of different local states of being: arousal of the motor and cingulate cortices and inhibition of the associative ones.
