Discovery and analysis of three faint dwarf galaxies and a globular cluster in the outer halo of the andromeda galaxy

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented the discovery of three faint dwarf galaxies and a globular cluster in the halo of the Andromeda galaxy (M31), found in our MegaCam survey that spans the southern quadrant of M31, from a projected distance of ~50 to ~150 kpc.
Journal ArticleDOI

The sagittarius streams in the southern galactic hemisphere

TL;DR: In this paper, the structure of the Sagittarius stream in the Southern Galactic hemisphere is analyzed with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 8 (SDSD 8) using both photometric and spectroscopic data, and it is shown that the blue straggler population belongs mainly to Sagittaris and the blue horizontal branch stars belong mainly to the Cetus stream in this confused location in the halo.
Journal ArticleDOI

Leo V: A companion of a companion of the Milky Way galaxy?

TL;DR: In this article, the discovery of a new satellite in the constellation Leo, identified in data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, is reported, which lies at a distance of ~180 kpc, and is separated by 3° from another recent discovery, Leo IV.
Journal ArticleDOI

Low surface brightness galaxies in the local universe .1. The catalog

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a large survey for low surface brightness galaxies in the nearby universe (z less than or similar to 0.1) using automated plate measuring machine scans of survey plates from the UK Schmidt Telescope and from follow-up observations at radio and optical wavelengths.
